Hey guys i dont know much about engines and so forth but for some reason the other day i had a drip of what looked like engine oil INSIDE my car running down from under the heater unit?? Im a bit worried that some oil or something is inside my cooling system.
This happened about 6 months ago but i have not seen it since. Its not much oil maybe 5ml at the absolute max.
Also how much oil are these old diesels meant to burn?? I reckon i would i would hapily have to put in on average 500ml a week, sometimes a bit more or less.
maybe the oil is leaking from the rocker cover or similar and running down the outside of one of the heater hoses? otherwise no idea where that oil might be coming from. Older SD33's do get through a fair bit of oil, it's not too much to worry about so long as you keep the oil up to it. You are probably losing a fair bit through the blowby pipe on the LHS of the motor too - if you block the low mount blowby and plumb the rocker cover into the inlet you might use a bit less oil. a good oil flush to get rid of any sludge in there, and some quality oil additive will slow the oil burning a bit too.
a compression test will give a reasonable indication of the condition of the engine.
Mine is running fine it just seems to be using a bit of oil thats all. I was just a bit worried that something was majorly wrong.
Also when i checked my radiator fluid ( First time in a while i must admit ) There was a brown type sludge where you top up the fluid stuck to the sides. It was kinda of like mud or something, any ideas??
