extractors and open exhaust and stuff

was talking to a guy at the local tyre place about tyres, and he said that to get more power from my 2.4 diesel 4Runner, the first things he would do was put on extractors, something with the exhaust and snorkle.

snorkle is easy enough to understand, but what is the work to be done with extractors and exhaust? is it work that if i gget the parts i can do myself? is it gonna be bloody expensive?

Although not a 2.4 diesel, but all diesels prolly improve the same with the same mods, I sourced some 2nd hand extractors and had an exhaust place install them and a 2 1/2 inch exhaust to the diesel 80 at a total cost of $500.
I reckon this was a worthwhile expense as the truck seems to have more pull where it counts off road and has a way better note

agree...while not a throw you back in yer seat kind of thing
the better a diesel breathes the better it runs and will be better at the bowser...i put extractors, snorkel and bigger pipe on my 3.5L and yep it is a good move. involves bolting up to your manifold can be a prick if the manifold bolts snap when undoing them, then welding up the pipe to rest of exhaust....

When i put the exhaust on my 60 the shop put some type of flexiable pipe on do you guys think its worth it or not as since i cant get a turbo i was thinking of getting extractors for my lux 2.8 .What brands best im leaning towards pacemaker but any other thoughts
