does any one know of any other shocks that are ajustable apart from ranchos?
and how they perform?
looking for something that i can run a bit harder on-road then soften up off-road get the best of both worlds

pro comp also have adjustable shocks

Koni do for road cars not sure if they have any for off road appications

I had a set of Koni adjustables in a falcon they were big $$$ but great, you could dial in just the right amount of shock then if you wanted to carry a load change the setting

I would go the rancho's and if you really want the full set up go the in cab kit

Koni's are a quality adjustable shock, only problems are price and not enough longer travel options, pity cause they're tougher than ranchos.

I have had Koni on my GQ tray for 4 years and have never touched them.
When coupled with the correct coils you cant beat them for all round performance. :D

I've got Koni top adjustables on my Mondeo and they are fantastic. On the softest setting the ride is very soft and handling about the same as the factory shocks. Wound up between 1/2 - 3/4 hard it handles like on rails. :D Would love to get a set for the Feroza, but they're just too expensive.

From memory they were around $600 a pair :shock: I imagine the 4wd versions would probably be dearer. I believe the Ranchos are only around $175 a pair for the RS9000....

You might want to check that, i'm sure they are about $175 each not per pair. Let us know if you can get them for $175 a pair though!!!!

I would be interested to know what shocks some of the other comp. trucks eg. Winch - , outback- , rainforest - challenge use ?

Most use Rancho -
Are they using them because they get them sponsored ?

Do they feel they are the best ?

Do they use them because they are the longest shock off the shelf ?

What about Koni's ?
They can be rebuilt at home
They can be custom made to any length (within reason) at a price
BUT YES - You do have to take them off the car to adjust them

I don't think Rancho's can be rebuilt and no custom sizes that I know of.

I have fitted heaps of Rancho shocks to customers cars and most come back and want them changed as they are to soft. I think most buy Rancho for the leingth and dollar factor, but for a everyday and tourer I would and do use something other than Rancho. Dont get me wrong I arnt canning the shock but everything has its place. Rancho are a shyt hot rock crawler shock, and have untill know used them myself. :D

Surely you want the shocks to be soft so the vehicle flexes easier ?

Being adjustable I thought you could dial it for what you wanted.

Is the hardest setting still too soft for some people ?

There are two different types of Konis (at least for cars- I imagine 4WD applications are the same?). The red Koni Special are internally adjustable (ie need to be take off the vehicle and fully compressed to adjust) and the yellow Koni Sports which are externally adjustable on the vehicle. The Sports also offer more damping force than the Specials. The rough price I gave earlier was for the yellow Sports externally adjustable, the reds are considerably cheaper.

I would look at the Pro comp shocks.
They are good on $ and they are a good product.

do u have a number for this pro-comp guy
i do a lot more distance driving ( not quite touring though) and fast stuff if they are that soft that would not be good
only problem is like most people without huge budgets the zook has to drive me to work, up any hill, over rocks, through mud, down the fire trail, through the creek and any where else i want to go

i would be keen for any more replys as i would like to get it right first time and not have to try shock after shock

Pro Comp has copped a pretty bad rap in the past but their new style (ES9000) has improved 10 fold and after seing them and the way they are built i will defianatly be buying them when i need new shocks. I am currently running Rancho's in the front and Monroes in the rear.

those new procomps are built like a brick outhouse and are externally adjustable.
they look awesome and come in some big sizes as well.
they're on my shopping list when the rancho's cark it.

I have RS5000s on my Frontera and these are by no means soft. But they do flex well (for a F'terra).I'm more then happy with them.
Thje only critisism is they are a bit hard on corrigations with no load...
I don't know what the 9000s are like though??
