Taking Gear and Transfer Sticks Out?
Taking Gear and Transfer Sticks Out?
Is it overly hard to take the gearbox and transfer case sticks out of a WT sierra? i want to take them out and straighten them out a bit so that my gear boot can go back on. after my body lift.

for the tcase...
remove the boot by undoing the metal clip
you will see a steel cap with two notches
it is removed in a similar way to a lightbulb with two pins
press down and twist open
i've successfully used a screw driver, a pair needlenose pliers, a branch and bare hands - with varying levels of difficulty
not sure about the gearbox because my memory is fuzzy but it should be much the same

gear shifter
well to remove the gear shifter, once the boot off it is pretty simple , by memory , you well see a round plate with 3 screws in theh top just undo that and the stick will come loos e with a rubber thingy on it. i found it easier for me to attack car with grinder then to bend the stick. just a small grind in the tunnel and i get all me gears .

Yes the transmission shifter is pretty easy. It's also a good way to fill with transmission fluid as you can tip it straight from the bottle rather than dicking around with pumping it into that spastic filler plug location
Ben i did take some tin snips to the centre console actually but then if i was in 2nd, 4th or Reverse the gearboot itself would pull it out of gear so i decided to just bend the thing. Wasn't actually all that hard either.
Damo how in gods name do you know that its full and not overfull?

If pouring oil down the shifter hole, just work out how much the gearbox holds, and pour that it. THere is a chart somewhere that has all the capacities for zooks. but i think it died when the pics went. This method is much easier than using the fill plug.
