Ok , I,m getting close to finishing my critta , Thing is I think ive done some strange stuff already , and could easily step over the line and become known as an extremist of some type if not the maybe the booty fab king of zookdem , anyway my question should anbody decide to answer it is ,
Ive had the plan of using motorcycle type front gaurds on this thing for years, its crunch time , front end is done so the chioce has to be made
bike type front gaurds mounted on a quick release - or forty series
fronts ,
Keep in mind front is tube from about a third along the bonnet foward
and has been narrowed to width of bonnet which is now 5 inchs longer and 1 inch narrower at the front .
The whole tire is outboard of the body line at moment .
Bike type is mounted very close to tire and attached to the front knukle as to turn and rise with the suspension .

When you say bike type do you mean the gaurd will move up and down with the wheel ?

Deffinetly bike style guards. You could use truck style or the hot rod/clubman style universals. They might need to be spring loaded upwards so any rocks and stuff jaming on top doesn't take them out. How wide do you need?

Was lookin through a petersons mag and saw a similar style on their project tacoma. They had a truck style guard over the rear wheels that attached to the axle, so it traveled with the wheel and could be easily removed for wheeling. Sat well under the narowed bed. If this is what ya thinkin, go for it. It will help add the the strangeness of the beastie

the other alternative is to use tyre treads as rubber flares. Rear red neck style.

Thanks guys , Liam Just needed to know i wasnt the only one that would go this way
There going over 35s , I found a local guy that does a nice rolled egde
so they should sit nice and tight on the tire ,
They will be on a quick release for wheeling
He does them in just mild steel , Hope i can convince him to do some in Checker plate we figure at night you wont even see them if painted matt black ,they will look like a tire hehe.

My vote was for bike type. I think they will look a little odd but the idea appeals to me for functionality. Liam mentioned spring loading them which is an interesting idea but even like that I think they will get caned off road. Best going with your idea of removing them for offroad work.

Be good if there was something in a poly type material. firm enough to keep its shape but bendy. Theres something like this outside the shop at the moment about 10 inches by 1/2 inch , but one side is printed with 'danger power cables below'.
