my POS losing power

Post by SiKiD_01 »

been out wheeling and stuff a lot lately, but the bloody G16A keeps losing power.

it doesn't happen all the time, but every now and then, esp. over corrugated roads, and bumpy surfaces. i assume its either something to do with the ignition system (spark) or its a huge POS. the leads are loose sometimes, and there is that smell of unburnt fuel (like when you do key bangers). so it could be a cylinder not getting spark. i also thought that it could be dirty fuel lines and so on, but i've flushed the tank and got new fuel filters.

is this common? if i were to upgrade/change the dizzy and leads, what should i get? what do others use?

another problem is, when doing a lot of water crossings, and hitting small puddles at speed, i seem to get water in the engine. i've put half a snorkel on, no water there, tried to seal the air filter as good as i can, and still seem to get my engine sputtering after water runs and crossings. is there any other way water can get into the engine, if its not going through the carby, then where? or is it possible for water to get in through a vaccuum line, or the side of the carby?

thanks for any help, steve.

Try the Dizzy cap and see if there are no cracks in it. Might be wise to maybe replace all bits, leads and cap.

Cap- try zook shop.
Leads - good ones like magnacore or topgun or bosch.

cheers

Something as simple as having water sitting on your old HT leads or coil can cause it to run rough, and you'll be surprised how much moisture you can get in your dizzy after bashing it through a few puddles.

I'd check these options out first before worrying about actually having water in your engine, cause I'm thinking you'll know about that when it happens !

EFI may help here  :D
