Information regarding big body lifts, chassis modification
Hi, as you can see I am new to the 4x4 scene, but i am not new to the performance car scene. I have built/building a street strip car but i have taken somewhat of an interest into small 4wd's, such as suzkies with huge lift and massive tyres. I have been browsing the net trying to find some information regarding exactly what is involved in doing a large body lift but i seem to find just alot of into on the normal "lift kits".
I want to build something along the lines of this car.
the questions i have about doing something like this
Do you have any guides/information/books on how to set up the chassis with the leaf springs, how it is all done etc. What exactly is modifyed and what is left std. What aftermarket parts can be used, or is everything basically custom made?
What diffs are used, the ones in the pic look to be different as the track is so much bigger.
What chassis is the best to do for this type of modification? Is there any cars that this is just not possible to do, or is much more difficult then say another chassis.
I understand that this is not some few weekend job to complete, I understand that fully as i have been building my blubird for a few years now, doing basically all of it my self. (if you want to check out what i have done to my other cars please browse http://photobucket.com/albums/v430/SR910/ )

I am quite proficient with a mig, and i have some friends that weld alloy and steel with TIG all day so it shouldnt be too much of a problem. Im just resurching as much as possible before i make any purchases.
I am a member of www.performanceforums.com i got the pic from a guy there called Towie, he owns the towing company that the 4x4 is on. He had a 13bt sigma, before it was stolen. Was a show car with over 350 rwkw.

if you want the diffs to hold up (id assume u are goin to be runnin a few hp and not the stock zuk motor) u should go hilux diffs
they should be plenty strong. if you want a bit of lift go SOA or SPOA (Spring Over Axel) with a bit of a body lift maybe 2 inches it will look tall and should fit 35" tires i think the ones on the pic u posted are 35.5 inches tall ( i also think they are Dana 44 diffs also they have been shortened a bit so they are not to wide)

not really, i like building these type of things for the fun of building it, and where i live there are some good 4wd tracks, not that a normal 4x4 couldnt do them i dont think.
I just like the engineering challange of putting all different parts together.
In my gallery u can see a bluebird trx, that i have custom fitted IRS from a MR30 skyline into (australian bluebirds never came out with IRS, just trailing arm setup)
I like building things out of the ordinary, like my bluebird wagon that had 244 rwkw, soon to be 300 rwkw with new motor thats int he gallery.

Thats only a two inch bodylift.
It's 14 inches higher than stock- but 20 inches wider, 8 inch wheel base stretch and heaps longer springs- so it's actually quite stable. Having sheet lots of weight in the tyres and diffs but reducing the weight sprung weight has helped even more.
It looks higher than it is because we cut the smut out of the guards. Why the hell do you want it so high though
