Just wondering if people prefer the ST or DX models as a touring fourby. Obviously most people will mod the vehicle anyway.

yeah you also for got to do ST-L
either way from when i was getting mine it was much diffence in price from DX to ST cause DX dont come standard with AIR CON and once u put in and stuff price is within or $1000 or so........ dont qoute me on it though..
ST is the best way to go, electics are nice carpet is nice everything is just nice you also get side steps with ST but i took mine off neway to put in simply your get nicer stuff with ST just the small things and u get alloys and if u dont want them sell them cause there damn popular and nissan sell them for around $800 a rim

I was reading in 4wd monthly driver training article about leccy windows getting wet in water crossings and then being fekked. Dunno how likely it is......but it's a reason for getting manual windows
carpet I think is a mixed blessing.....nice when its new but if you get stuck in a water crossing as happened to me recently and you are there long enough for your seals to leak (approx 0.00000001 seconds in a defender!) the mud soaked carpets may loose their appeal.
I didnt forget ST-L or ST-S, I just kinda included them in ST, I know they are different, but dunno how many off roaders want leather and shit. Anyway I'll add them for the sake of completeness.
Whatever I get I am gonna replace the wheels with 16x8" steelies so I can run 33" tyres, true could sell the alloys from an ST.
A/C may not have been standard in the DX in the past but it is now.
Just wanna get peoples views cos I dunno whiich to go for. I am check out the 2005 DX and ST soon and I guess when I inspect them I will make up my mind.

Horses for courses. As a younger and less silvery dingo I went for the basic dundee models and they served me well in my jaunts through the scrub in pursuit if the wiley boar and the yella belly. The cleanup at the end of the weekend was the main advantage.
These days i no longer test my limits in scrub sojourns and near all of my driving is on the blacktop. However I feel uncomfy in anything less than a 4b and Creature comforts are important to my tired old bones so the 4.8 litre T.I is just the ticket. Power to burn and more than enuff ability for anything i will attempt these days.

I've had mine over the bonnet with water deep quite a few times, and never stopped the windows working.. Other things have stopped them, but with 330k klms on the clock, and fair wack offroading, does cause some issues, but happens on winding windows too.
The problem is highlighted in Yellow.

For my two cents I too ummed and arhed about DX/ST.
I went ST.
1. Seats are more comfortable - esp in back (extra adjustements)

3. Better resale - average joe doesn't want poverty pack unless cheap
4. Little things like remote locking, CD, tinting, elec aerial,

I'd go for the ST,(and did!) for the above reasons.
I sold the rims with 2nd hand tyres for around $2,000 which paid for the new steel Rock Crawler rims and new 35" tyres
