Swivel Hub Bearings Q???

Post by 88MAV »

Replacing the Swivel Bearings on an 88 Mav, left side went O.K.,,pulled apart the right side and found that it has plugs under the bearings..Left side didn't, these plugs seal the bearings off from the C.V. joint, kinda like a Welsh plug.......the bearing kit I bought dosen't include the plugs.......the question is do I need them or are they unnecessary?? Any advice appreciated..................Graeme..

i had these under both sides and the only reason they r in there is 2 stop the cv grease mixin with the swivel bearing grease, but i have always used cv grease on my swivel bearings so i took them out, and none of the toyota axles have them and i havent had any probs coz of it

Thanks Hypo....I'm thinking that C.V grease is not going to hurt the bearings.............and may even help keep em greased!!!!

The new bearings are different to old,,races are a bit wider, (havn't measured with Mic.) and the bearings have a rubber seal on the outside. Plugs have to be removed to replace bearings so I'm hoping that since they are not included in the bearing kit they are not required and that they have compensated for this with race width....here's hoping Graeme.
