CV's repack

Post by AndrewPatrol »

I'm going to repack my CV's and just want to check what is the recommended way. I've done it once before. The quesytions I have are : 1.....What grease?
2.....Do i have to replace the seals that go in the back of the hub to stop oil from diff? I didn't do it first time?
3.....After playing in water I usually check those bolts on bottom of swivel hub for contamination. Sometimes a little water comes out. Is it neccessary to repack every time?
4.....My auto locking hubs have a bit of grease in them, looks like its come from the CV area. could this be right? and should there be much in there at all? or just a little bit on the end of axle splines when reassembling.
5.....there's no gaskets anywhere, is it all right for a bit of seepage over time?
6.....how much grease will do both hubs?

Apologies for all the questions, but I'd rather get it right than pay the goons (N.....) for maybe doing it?

Thanks in Advance

1) If I remember, Moly is the chit i used.
2) Recommended, specially if you didnt last time, you dont want them to leak water inside.
3) If theres any water in there you should repack. I found out the hard way on wheelbearings.. still to replace one set.. :*(
4) From wheel bearings? not CVs
5) Seepage where? into the hubs? That probably be from wheelbearings.
6) one of them Mobil 500ml tubs will do more than one pr.

Use Moly grease for the CVs, HTB for the rest.
