no clutch after drowing in bog hole

any of u guys had this problem before where the clutch wont disengage after being in water and loosing all drive how can i stop this from happening and prevent the boys from towing me out of the bush again

Don't use your clutch in deep mud!!!!

If its thick, gooey mud and you stop, don't use the clutch, if you have to be snatched out, so be it, at least your clutch will survive..........

i had a small hole in the boot on slave cylinder which allowed mud in when i used it in bog hole. try to never use clutch in bog hole as it roots everything.


Try and take the boot off and spray water in bell housing while operating clutch. do this till clean water comes out. This should allow you to drive the car a bit. but really you either need a new clutch or just take out clutch and replace bearings as they will no doubt be rooted or stuff up soon

we seized our one yesterday trying to do a tug of war against a v6 hilux.

Yeah I just got my Mav back today, $990 bucks later, the clutch was rooted. The boot covering the fork in was slashed, somehow got mud and grass in there and all the fingers seized so the bastard couldnt get enough pressure together to work.

Similar thing happened to a Jeep not so long ago. I fixed using a hacksaw blade to dig the mud out of the pressure plate and we drove out. You need to know what you are doing though. Plenty of water fired in through the slave cylinder boot will also fix it.
What you need to remember is that the clutch spins like a centrifuge and flings all the hard to the outside and flings the water totally out which cements the pressure plate open so you loose drive.
As mentioned earlier don't use the clutch in slop and check all is sealed up prior to going in.

Keep hosing the bellhousing out through the actuator arm boot, till it comes good, make sure you take it for a long drive straight away to dry out or your clutch plate will be rusted to the flywheel next morning. It won't do your release bearing a lot of good, but I had squeeks on changes and other spinning noises for months before it came good, drove it for another 12 months before I swapped it when I changed the engine.

not only will you do the clutch, but you will blow up the block too

If you have to change gear, ie go for reverse,turn off the engine then engage reverse and start the engine with the clutch out.

well in this case, the exhaust would have been WELL under water, it was a very deep hole, thats why i went around it, and so did 5 others

Well I tried not to shut off the engine in water of the tailpipe before, now it has to be over the roof, I ran it between the cab and tray

And you only went arond the hole coz someone decided to make a track around after watching us and seeing how deep the hole actually was. AND No I didnt walk the hole for Buckers as I thought we would get thru, just like we did last time and the time before that...
Hang on...... All them times were in Toyotas!!

i had the same problem a few weeks ago............the silt got into the housing and as I attempted to use reverse.....I engaged the clutch....the silt got trapped ....................no worky anymore.

I pulled the clutch out after a week after the high pressure hose made absolutely no difference and found a solid mud pack holding the fingers open

Long story short..........$250 for a new clutch kit
