Get the reduction gears first. Speed will get you into more trouble than a lack of traction.
If you can climb the obstacle slow enough you might be able to keep throttle below the point where you break traction. If you've only got the locker you may still need too much speed to keep in your power band.
Cheers,
Scott

id go the locker any day.. low range will gear u down enuff aslong as ur not running massively oversize tyres..with locked diffs front and back ull be roses..
dont get me wrong though..u can never have too low gearing for crawling, but in my oppinion (which might or might not count for much) double lockers and low range will get u 99.8% of places u will need to go, and with all that traction u shouldnt need to point and shoot..i guess it depends how far u wanna go and how deep ur pockets are..

Thats exactly what I did.
I new that one day soon I would want lower gears and my transfer bearings were a bit noisy so I bit the bullet and chucked a gear set in.
Makes driving stuff so much nicer being able to idle over big obsticles.
But having said that a front locker will def get you further.

so i spose you don't have a rear lsd then if your bearings are noisy get the reduction gears 2 birds with one stone then get both lockers

I dont have either but why dont you pull out the mig, weld your spider gears and get crawler gears? but seriously get the crawler gears first cause its alot better to go home after not making something due to lack of traction then to go up somethhing with lots of traction and too much speed and roll the thing and take it to its new home at the wreckers.

I run 35's and not much else in the driveline has changed.
Just went out the back and had a play and decided that I would go for crawlers next in my 40 just cause I need the rev's and therefore speed up to keep any consistent power.
I am going to start a new poll though, crawlers or 2nd transfer?
