anyone had any experience with 4M40 in Tritons and Pajeros and aftermarket turbo's. I'm very keen to get a denco kit on my triton but I worried about overheating problems associated with aftermarket turbo's especially since I will be living in Mt Isa for the next 3-4 years.

4M40's and after market turbos - any good?

Should be alright. The turbo and non - turbo engines are very similar. Very small difference in cams, (actually got a non-turbo cam in my turbo eng and can't tell the difference.) different pistons (same comp ratio, different rings), don't know about radiator differences or if the non-turbo has the boost dohickey on the injection pump.

What I have is for 5sp boxes :-
2.2ltr for 2.6, 2.5 & 2.8 diesels (V5M21)
2.5ltr for 3.0 V6 (V5MT1)
3.2ltr for 2.8TDI (Tritons & Pajero's) & 3.5 V6 (V5M31)
This is straight from a factory Mitsu workshop manual listing all models with gearbox variants for the Aus, Euro etc markets.
Also for each 5sp box there are all sorts of variants and running changes with different ratio's.

I've decide to give the turbo kit a miss (with much regret ) for a few reasons 1) I'm still concerning about overheating in 40+ degree temps 2) turbo is likely to take its toll on my smaller gear box 3) reduced reliability while living and travelling out west (Qld)....that is if someone can convince me otherwise. But never fear I'm using my saved $$$$ to kit the triton up- snorkel, driving lights, flares, extractors and bigger exhaust- and I will have money left over to buy Xmas presents this year
