triangulated 3 link on a 93 DC lux
has anyone done one? im assuming it looks like this:
i know chris (ROC70Y) has done it, has anyone else? how hard is it to do?
what are the benefits / negatives of it?
cheers all.

Sorry to Hijack your post Mick, but a question for Ruff, did you mainly use range rover parts for coils setup in the Snotlux, as I've got the A-frame and trailing arms out of a rangie and looking for some pics on how best to set this up, or anything that needs to be beefed up, also did you use a panhard, as don't really see this as being necesarry with the rangie A-frame.
Try not to let your mind wander...It is too

LMAO Thats the worst hijack I've seen to date. You didnt just hijack it you started a whole new topic. But when you realise that all the posts previous were regarding delux's picture you've probably done the board a service.
Yeah , I think what mick is trying to ask is how to a-frame his shocks, which is very easy, I've done mine a while ago, only thing is if you set up your rear suspension real soft and A-frame the shocks, it'll sway sideways real bad when any real load is put on, I can run mine either way still, which works out good for me.
I think his tri 3 link is some sort of sex thing him and Going Up have worked out, didn't realise Chris was in on it as well

All it is new mounts on the diff, and new mounts on the round cross member above the rear diff, you can work out where yourself depending on length of shocks etc, Snake racing make a kit, or I suppose superior make one, about $100 to buy, I made mine at work cost sweet FA

tony. what is a tri 3 link?
Chris did not tell you it was a triangulated 3 link, i don't even know what a triangulated 3 link is...

shocks
De-lux wrote:hahaha you all suck ass!!
thanks for the help my lil lux.
on a serious note Mick.
it works well on my truck, the rear of mine has new mounts on top of the diff, ubolt flip, lift blocks and a new hoop (chasis x member) at the top.
the shocks are tapered in towards the top. Also running an 'a' arm or ladder bar to stop diff wrap.
the advantage to this is you can get more travel from a shorter shock as the shock doesn't have to extend or compress as far as it would if it were mounted straight up and down.
The disadvantage is that they are not as effective as 'shock absorbers' especially when carrying loads.
Overall though, i'm glad i have mounted them that way.
Chris

A trianglulated 3 link is as follows.
Link 1 & 2 are trailing arms as seen on most coil spring setups. But instead of having a panhard rod they have a:
Link 3. This link picks up the chassis above the trailing arms on both sides of the chassis. From the two points, the link forms a triangle to the third mount which is on the diff, on centre. It is very simmilar to an anti-wrap bar.
Lets try a really dodgy ASCII drawing viewing from above the car.
* = Link 3
+ = tyres
- = diff
*
* *
* *
+ * * +
+--------------+
+ +
The theory is that the trailing arms prevents the diff moving along the axis of the vehicle & link 3 prevents diff wrap & side-side movement. I have only ever seen this done with coils springs.
Hope this helps. If not I can do a 3D image & post it up here.
(Edit: fixed up typo's )

If you can picture a 5 link rear,, (like a 4Runner) the bottom arms stay. Top arms are removed, and new ones, pick-up from the chassis mounts, and meet above the diff centre, forming a triangle. This point then attaches to the top of the diff centrehousing using something similar to those off-road articulated tow-hitches. Being trianglated, it locates the diff same as a wrap bar, as well as laterally, so you can turf the panhard rod.
Look at the articles of Cheezy's rig in 4wd Monthly & 4x4 Australia, it shows the trianguled (also called A-frame) rear end clearly.
It's a piece of piss to do if you can weld....

Who can host the picture if I do it? Can be done today sometime.
Just go here http://imageshack.us/index.php
Then go to the browse button. Find your file. Upload it. Then on the next page just cut and paste the hyper link image thingy (thing between [Img]..)
into your outerlimits post and hey presto.
The good thing about the above site is that you dont have to register you can just chuck up one offs
thanks for all the help peoples, but i think the one that i will go for is the one lil lux and chris are referring to. the triangulated 3 link rear sounds like a pretty big f_uck around and the a - frame shock mounting is what im going for. thanks again for the help.
whats the benefits for a U bolt flip? (aside from gaining about 2mm extra clearance)?

Yeah, it can get quite complex & expensive. Not to mention hard to engineer & get approved.
The main place I have seen them is with air-bag systems on low rider mini-trucks. You know the ones that have 23" bling bling wheels & lower the entire ute down so that the chassis rails are touching the ground.
I dont know how it would go for artictulation. I would have to model it up in 3D & manipulate it to work out maximum angles etc etc.
