Hi Everyone.

I'm new to this site having just received my account activation today. I have 2 GQ patrols, 1 LWB 94 Diesel that the Minister for War and Finances Drives and a 90 Petrol SWB that I am repairing/rebuilding for Gymkana and light competition work (I also have 1 MQ Diesel Patrol ute).

I am the Treasurer of the Sunshine Coast 4WD Club (anyone been to our annual gymkana?) and used to run a Red/White/Blue Range Rover Ute in Winch Challenges (it was a 2 door wagon until I rolled it over backwards ... ouch).

Anyway I would like to turbo the Diesel LWB GQ and have been researching about the turbo kits available .. ranging from $3100 to $4200 however I read that some people aren't too happy with the output of those kits and are talking about fitting bigger impelllers etc.javascript:emoticon(':?')
Confused

We use the LWB for towing our camper and boat (but not at the same timejavascript:emoticon(':lol:')
Laughing) so are looking for good torque (and a little more horsepower wouldn't go astray). Is there anyone who can give good advice on what is the best kit.

I have a Denco Kit, and now that Denco themselves have set it up, Im happy with it..

If I was going again from scratch, it would be a hard decision to go past their service.

Hey ludacris if you don't mind how much did it set you back. Ive seen the speedway cars Mikes kids (Darren & Julie ) drive and they fly!!!

Simo,
If you start modifying your turbo intake (impeller), be a little cautious of just how big you go. I run a CT26/Garrett T04-E hybrid and is a little too big. It has a 51mm trim compressor wheel, and we should have stopped modifying it when we had a 48mm trim wheel on it, as it has a shade too much lag for my liking (38mm as standard). On highway its great, with plenty of top end, but it doesn't start boosting untill over 2000rpm which is no good for low down torque when out 4wding.

Changing to 4.6 diff ratios will help, but running a slightly smaller turbo would have been easier from the start.

Thanks for that Mitch. That's the sort of info I was looking for but all responses welcome so thank yo ueveryone. I do have a spare CT26 Cruiser turbo at home sitting on the bench and am now wanting to know if it will bolt up to a Nissan exhaust manifold as I can buy one of those seperately for around $6-700.

Mitch (or anybody) do you know if the CT26 will bolt to the Nissan manifold?

I'm not 100% sure, but would think the mounting plate on the Nissan manifold would be different to the bolt arrangement on the Toyota turbo. If you know a local fabricator that can make up an adapter plate, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Where do you get your manifolds from?? They are over NZ$1000 here!!!

We made the manifold on my truck...is a booty fab home job, but does the trick until I can afford a custom extractor/manifold. For simplicity, we high mounted the turbo, as we needed easy access to it for modifying. Manifold is a PITA for warping the mounting flange, is always blowing the gasket on #1 exhaust port :x

The CT26 turbo is a good one to start with as the exhaust wheel is steel and doesn't hop off the shaft like the ceramic ones from a Celica GT-4....been there, done that, not much fun!

Will try and dig out a pic of the set up for ya.

i got mine done for $550 full 3" mandrel bend no mufflers and it has double flex and flanged in three spots.. bloody awesome i reckon
