Hi guys,
I am after some advice, I have had my 302 for about 2 months now and I am happy with it, however I has started to lose oil pressure when she warms up, I have been told that it is possibly a blocked pick up or a dropped bearing.
In the mean time a guy I work with has offered me a strait swap for a deisel BJ40 the rigs line up like this:
FJ40:
302 WIndsor (engineered) but stuffed maybe
6 month rego
60 series Disk Brake front end (who said bolt up conversion???)
Sunraisers
roll bar
60 series seats
all auto elect just replaced.
gas conversion
BJ 40
3b Deisel (rebuilt 30,000 K ago)
calais seats
bull bar
Warn 8274 winch
35in BFG muddies
NO REGO (blueslip fro NSW required)
soft top
roll bar
painted in brock blue (not a bad job)
CD player
MOMO wheel
king springs (2inch lift)
extended shackles
The bodys are about the same condition the 3b has a leaking injector pump, transfer case i have been told that these are seals. and the fj40 conversion is a bit sloppy but nevertheless is engineered.
which way would you go ??

Keep On Rockin' in the Free World !!
Flush your oil system with some sort of cleaning crap you get from the auto shop before you make up your mind.
The 3b looks like a stronger 4x4 but will be a lot slower, but hey if you have a stuffed engine it will save you some stress later.
The question is the devil you know or the devil you don't.

I have changed the oil and filter but made no difference, while I was there i should have tken the sump off and had look, the prob is it is also a daily driver for me I dive from Newy to Hornsby (130km) the gas was pretty cheap so deisel may be a bit pricey whats the expected litres per 100 out of a 3 b ?

Im here for the sausage!
t
why not buy another 302?? they would only be a few hundred???
and your crazy driving ya 40 that far each day even on gas.
blue slip would be a hassle on the diesel 40. but i will have his shackles??

G'day, my 2cents worth.
I've had both FJ40 (1974 2f stock), and currently drive a BJ42 (1982 3b turbo) Even with the exra cost of diesle motors and servicing i still reckon a diesle is the way to go. Especially off road .All other things considered it sounds like a decent swap.
P.S i didn't "go" mad. I've been that way for quite some time

Daz spot on
3B is all but gutless, but real reliable and efficient
It is good engine to turboifyamacate
the old school internals apparently have better oil lube jets which is good in any case but if rebuilt recently it will be good n strong place to start
do a turbo PROPERLY and you will haul ass with no whiney petrol V8 problems
anyhoo, mine has never given up

btw if he if offering the swap he prolly knows your rig is better than his and can get yours running on the raod again alot cheaper than what hes already got
It is pretty much the only reason I would swap.
Unless he is going for a more of a road car than offroad.
petrol vs diesel is one argument, V8 vs standard old tired factory un-turbo-ed diesel is a very different argument.
What do you want. 100 + k's a day in something you want to push is going to be a different experience too.
