Unleashing the 1L beast within

Post by CptnBarney »

Guys,
My Maruti is fitted with the 970cc F10 powerhouse. Can much be done to improve its performance? Can't afford an engine swap yet, and I've a spare motor in the shed that I'm going to learn how to put back together. So...any suggestions on what can be done internally or externally to give them a bit more pep?
Cheers...

Set of extractors and zorst

"ljextreme" on this board has a 1.0 lwb ute that seems to go quite well, perhaps he will chime in.

I agree, extractors made a huge difference to my old 970cc beast.

Yes The little fellows respond well to a good exhaust system and extrators

On reliability make sure you change filter and oil on a regular basis on these motor's , There a little suspect on oil delivery at the cam bearings ;)

Or should i say lack of cam bearings !

maybe if you have the money get a mild cam or some thing maybe get a bit of head work done or just run premium unleaded fuel

I'd go the extracters and exhaust. It worked well on my maruti, but if you plan to do an engine swap in the future, I'd just leave it at that. you can spend some money on headwork and cam etc, but you will get little gain on such a small motor, and inevitably you will have to rev the thing harder to use the extra power you have given it. This will intern cause greater wear on other parts of the motor that you didn't change.

Just do the zaust and save your dollars for a bigger donk.

isnt NOS for high end power i was told it has little to no effect on low down range but high end its awsome but i have also been told that it works in 2 diffrent ways and each would give a diffrent power range

but how does it work i was told 2 diffrent ways

way 1
when it is injected i the heat of the ignition of the fuel causes it to expands froma liquide into a gas giving more compression

wat 2 when it is injected it burns violently giving more compression

Its the same as turbo or super charging, The NOS is the air side of it, you still have to pump in more fuel. So more fuel air, more power. But it only lasts as long as you have NOS in the bottle.

NOS is dangerous and can cause the engine to blow up if released while the throttle is not fully opened. if you were to do it you wouldn't go fast and furious style with the buttons on the steering wheel. you connect it to a throttle body sensor and run it off that. really a dumb idea of 4x4ing. i also wouldn't think a suzi motor would be good for a very big hit. most skylines die at about 150hp shot of NOS so the little suzi would be pushing even a 50hp shot. Is it legal in NSW and VIC cause it certainly aint here. its isn't even allowed to be hooked up. in the end you still ahve the problem of not getting enough fuel there.

Nitrous is just like a turbo or superharger in that it adds more oxygen to the combustion. So yes, you would need more fuel to supply it, and yes, O-ringing, lower compression (usual turbo/sc mods) make for a more nitrous friendly motor.
