Ideas.... 60's style

Post by 80diesel4play »

Hey hey,

I got a bit of a brainwave and wondered how much this is gonna set me back....

I am after a 60 witha completely stuff'd roof - I mean rusted to the nether reigons - but with an okay drivline - how much should i expect to pay?

Reason why? I wanna chop it all off!!! I want to make my own custom ute - just weld it up and make it a 2 door with a back seat and lots of cage....lifted locked and 35'd for a fun machine that aint going to cost me a fortune when I hit sh!t - as per current situation with the 80....

Suggestions for price expectation will be greatly appreciated....!!!

one of my mates in gosford picked up a complete 60 with full driveline in tact for 1200 bucks, took all the motor, diffs, gearbox and transplanted it into an old 45 cab chassis man it was a beast. the cab of the sixty was pretty much stuffed full of rusty but it was still a good buy and nothing a grinder, welder & sheetmetal would do to fix rust!!!! he picked it up in the local gosford rag, so keep your eyes peeled and get some of your mates to keep eyes open im sure a bargin will pop up somewhere.

I want one to do the chop to - where's my 9" grinder?????? :D :D

Thanks!

paul mate, you and i have the same plans.
i was gonna get an old 60, chop it up and fit 35s without SOA or body lift
lock front and rear and use it as my tow rig and occasional bush basher

i will certainly like to help you chop your beast. i think i'm aptly qualified.

:D :D I've got the same idea & have already got the roof off!! :finger: It had a lota rust so the whole roof had to come off. Its an 84 model, came with ARB turbo & fairey o/drive, all for $2000. Not a bad price really.

Hye Stpeho - wanna make a cheap sale????

Keep your eye out for anything that comes similarly your way - I'd love to get a T/D with lockers.....

Thanks NAM - I think I'd be happy to have you and your pipe bender visit me.... Hey - do you have a welder handy now?? I'm getting some tube soon and want to fnish off some rock sliders.....!!!

Hmmm - I'll PM you when I get myself ready to play!!

The plan for the 60 is to make it a mud/rock runner with 75mm body lift - rear Radiator high mount in the engine bay and about 3" reset springs for 35's..... :D

Hey let's do the 60s project together!
I do have a small MIG suited for thin fab work. I need to get some gas though. I can possible loan you an old style CigWeld Compact 2 ARC if you can use it. You have unrestricted access to my bender.
We have access to my neighbour's ARC/MIG/TIG if you come over.
I have 10 x 75mm black poly body blocks already.
I have some spare pipe and can get more cheap (neighbour has an account with OneSteel).
It's all good.
I also have the plates "TOY-060" which I have been saving for such a project. Haha.

ooooh baby - I'm drooling now....

I can Arc weld absolutley anything - got a ticket in that one!! and Tig as well.

I'll grab some tube, or sort your man out.... I wanna use two sections of the cage as an air resevoir for a compressor....

ohhhhh I have to calm down now - gotta do a few things and get the new job b4 I can begin!!

Much Appreciate the offer and we will be hooking up soon enough!
Woo hoo!!!

NAM, how much did the plates set you back?

Sound like you guys are about to get serious! Mine is gonna take awhile cos I'm still fiddlin with the first 60(daily driver). Took the roof off & left the frame from the w/screen to the b pillars, that way I can keep the frt door windows & its something I can tack the canopy to.

Hey!

Same idea i have - leave the tops of the front doors - and then tack a bikini top on. gimme some pics!!!!

NAM - I had so many dreams last night of good ideas. Sorted the cooling system out completely with three thermo switches, two thermop fans and two elec' water pumps and about 5 meteres of 45mm tube......

Anyway - I'm getting a couple of things sorted on the 80 and then I'm full time shopping. We have a syndicate for tattslotto here at work - I'm paying up tomorrow!!! bring it awwwwnnnnn!!! :D

yes it's sounding like a lot of fun!!
and running the rad in the rear leaves plenty of room up front for a recessed winch and bar work
i'll see if we can get a soft top made up once we do the chop. my uncle owns a clothing factory and i think he might have some super duty industrial sewing machines.

hope you win big time mate cos we'll be in 60s heaven

And another one. Any ideas on how to make straight, neat cuts? Hacksaw goes all over the place & the 4" grinder is a bugger to get into some places.

Thanks for any ideas.
