Being in Newcastle doesn't help, but Northfield up here In Bris are / were a big Alpine dealer, maybe they could put you in touch with someone down your way.

When you were on the phone to Alpine you should have asked them who their repair agents are in your area.

I used to work in car audio repair and install years ago. We were sales/repair agents for all the major brands but that was in Qld so no help to you.

I'm not sure about Alpine but I've bought parts from Pioneer over the phone to fix my CD player myself. We used to charge $60/hour + parts.

If it's only just out of warranty then say the problem has been around for a little while but you are only just calling them now as you didn't have time before and you didn't realise the warranty was almost out. Has worked for me before.

Just call Alpine back and ask them.
