Extended shackles are illegal in Qld unless you obtain an engineer's report to say otherwise. You can either get this yourself or buy a kit that comes with one. The only one that I know of is from Jeep City at Rainbow Beach. They have an engineer approved kit that consists of longer shackles in the rear and the front has both extended hangers as well as the extended shackles. This is done in the front to try and maintain the factory castor angle.
This kit is $450 and comes with a report. I have bought this and regretted it from the day that I bought it. If the vehicle is only to be used for poser purposes they're fine but if you intend to use your 4wd I would stay away from them. To date, of the 6 piece kit, I am only using the front extended shackles and even they have been modified.
However you do get an engineers report stating that they believe the shackles meet or exceed the strength of the original items. I have also been told that this piece of paper is not worth shait.
So make of it what you will. But I was personally very dissapointed with the kit with the price rubbing salt into the wounds.
The owner, Rob Rye was helpful and very professional to deal with. It's a shame his product can't back him up.

shackles
Thats what I was told Beebee, the shackles I have been looking at are from ALLSET springs they are meant to be as tough as nails and give a lift of around 30mm, but I don't want to take the chances with the insurance company if I have a accident. 30 grand is alot of money.

Most of the 'Guidelines for Modification' that I have seen describe mods that do not require engineering assessment. Is this the case with the QLD Transport version? IMO people, including those that work for transport departments and cops, tend to view these guidelines as law because it make their life so much simpler.

"Owner-Certified Modifications"
You can fit a sway bar to a vehicle that didn't leave the factory with one, . Engine swaps within model range, transmission swaps within model range, uprated shock absorbers, all sorts of trivial little things like that..
My old Hilux was engineered and passed rego with 75mm extended, big, chunky, gold annodized, stand out from 100 metres away shackles front & rear?

In NSW it's a grey area, some engineers wont pass anything more than 2 inches longer than standard, others claim that you can't modify existing ones but can fit longer as long as it's not detrimental to the vehicle's safety.
There's a particular zuke thats usually parked in the main street of Glebe that has some 10 inch shackles...they're plenty beefy, but the handling must be appaling.

Shackles and lifting in QLD
In QLD the rules are quite simple. YOu can not alter the suspension ride height by more the 2" and use a body lift of more than 2". Black and white. No engineer can approve anything higher regardless of what he says. If he still reckons he can point him to Information Bulletin for approved persons number 35 dated May 2000.

As far as QLD Transport are concerned engineer reports are only good for wiping thier butts. I have had a engineers report takeing from me and ripped up in front of me told to drive my car home and they would be deregistering it within the hour and if they caught it on the road the would prosucute me to the fullest excent of the law. This was on a IFS Hilux with a 3" body lift 2" suspension and 33" tyres on 15x8 L/C wheels. The car also passed all its brakeing and suspension tests prefromed by them. This happen last week.  This wasent the first time my other Hilux which is the one I have been selling the bits off was also put off the road and i also coped a $400 fine for that one. At the time it passed all there bracking and steering tests, they just dindn't like it because it had a big lift and 35" tyres on it. The sooner they stop playing god and learn that they won't stop people doing mods to there 4x4 and controll it so they stay safe the better!!!!
PS found out that QLD trans regs are out side of what ADR's requiure so therefore are in essence against federal law. (to many $$$$ to fight)

Thanks
