8 Navruns for 2005. inc. WA, QLD, TAS, NSW & VIC

Post by maptrap »

Navrun was a great succuss in 2004 with events in Vic, Tas and SA. Just 5 points split the series winners Team VAT from the Nissan Nutters. In 2005 Navrun is going further a-field with new locations in WA, NSW and Qld. Going into our 4th year we have fine tuned our rules and scoring technique, identified what makes a Navrun so much fun, yet we have made each one unique. We have re-invested our takings into equipment such as 50+ Polaroid cameras, huge stocks of film, breathalyser, speed radar gun, generator and lighting, computer equipment, etc, which all contribute to Navrun events getting better and better. Navrun P/L is a proper business entity with ABN and registered trade mark, owned and managed by Rudi Paoletti of the very popular Adventurer Map series and Steve Hobbs of Pro Comp 4x4, both avid 4wd adventurers and competitors.

Although treated as exciting individual navigational events, the most successful team in the 2005 series will win a set of Pro Comp tyres to the value of $1200, you choose the tread design and size. Refer to the conditions set out in the rules. But for each event there will be prizes and trophies as we expect most people will participate in the events just in their home state or neighbouring states.

Navrun is a team event for two 4WD vehicles. You plot your own course and pick the tracks and situations you drive so this may suits stock standard 4WD vehicles right through to the well prepared competition rigs. There are no classes or class rules but extensively modified vehicles must be allowed to be on the road. All vehicles must be registered and the drivers must be licensed. Other than essential recovery equipment (such as snatch straps, tow points, etc) we do not require specific work to be done on your vehicle. It is simply recommended that each team of two vehicles has the resources to recover itself should the need arise. There will be GPS reference points. Ensure that at least one of you has a GPS.

Here’s the go … for the day runs we give you a Polaroid camera and a lot of GPS reference points with photos of us at these points. Your mission is to get to these places, identify which photo was taken at that location and take your photo identical to ours to prove you got there. Emphasis is placed on your observation and ability to replicate our photograph. Note, these will not be just boring old holiday snaps. Be prepared for some novel positions and navigational challenges. Other special tasks may also be thrown in. Although there is a minimum of two licensed people per vehicle, you may have more passengers. You may team up with a group of friends or bring the kids. Just make sure they are sharp, on the ball and not camera shy. In most cases, there are officials based at camp so displaced family members and abandoned camping equipment are safe.

Driving will vary from 6 to 8 hours each session. Evening festivities include a catered meal, breakfast, campfire socialising and at most events a brief night driving session. Scores will be tallied in the computer and trophies/prizes will be awarded to drivers and navigators on location at the conclusion of each event.

Feel free to copy these details, fax it or pass it around to fellow four wheel drive enthusiasts. In every case the early bird gets the worm. We will close the entries when we reach the maximum quota that each area can manage.

Upon receiving your entry form and payment, we will post/email detailed particulars pertaining to the NavRun you entered, such as how much fuel you will require, exact location, maps, etc.

The cost is $300 in total for the team of two cars per weekend NavRun. This includes dinner and breakfast for every participant. For more details call NavRun Headquarters (Rudi Paoletti) (03) 9789 6985 or refer to the Navrun website:

Hey Rudi,

Just wondering how many of the 8 events you need to enter to qualify for the series win? Or is it just the people with the highest cumulative scores at the end no matter whether they have done all 8 events and done poorly or only done 6 and did well for those 6.

Thanks
Rob

Good to hear so much interest.

Firstly, you need to only do 3 events to qualify for the ProComp Series. You can do more events, however the best 3 scores of all the events you have done only count overall.

There area also trophies and prizes for individual events up to 10th place.

The QLD Navrun will be in the SE of the state. As soon as we know the exact location I will post it. I'm hoping to make it close to Brisbane / Gold Coast area, but not sure as yet. Will know around January.

Why not be on the Navrun email list for all updates and info. Just email me on maptrap@netlink.com.au

The NSW event is not on the same date as the Ateco, I think they are a week apart.

Hey gang - I made sure the Navrun dates didn't clash with Ateco's etc. as I want to do them too.

I used to live in SE Qld (Ex Gold Coast Club president) and used to go to North Straddie for a thrash every few months. The inland tracks were grouse as they went straight up and down. Good lakes and beaches too. Word is, it's getting closed off - anyone able to update us on Nth Straddie.

I also lived in Ormeau and everytime I saw smoke I'd stoke up the ol'rangie and investigate, often being the first to find dumped cars (great supply of batteries and accessories) and often helped cops recover stolen rigs. Really great tracks in Ormeau but to spend a whole day there can be a bit much. Might also consider permits for Nerang or Numinbah. There is more good stuff out towards Beaudesert and can remember a suzi rolling onto me in a logan challenge one night out there. You Qld'ers are nuts heh?

Anyway I want you guys to tell me where you want Navrun in Qld, NSW and WA. Not really after megga hell tracks just good enjoyable stuff. But feel free to take me on a mission since I am coming your way....

This sounds like a fantastic event to be in. The GPS runs I have been in in the past have been all good. Look forward to competing in the Queensland one in 2005.
