rear travel on lux
What is the best way to go about getting more travel(more drop than anything) out of the rear leaves of the lux?
My idea was to make an extendede shackle long enough to keep the height the same when i move the rear shackle mount forward about 10 inches.
Has anyone got any other sugestions?

u no they put them clamps on for a reason (to stop the leafs swaying from side to side!!!!)
you wont get much travel out of a standard hilux rear spring, if you really want more travel invest in longer springs! it will at least make ur extended shackles worth while than there are alot of springs out there that u can use, ifs rears, falcon rears even, mazda's. theres a whole range and if done right it wont cost u much at all! i use in the rear ifs with 8 inch extended shackles and it cost me all up 180$, and i didnt have to stuff around with my hangers either

one more note, if u move ur rear hanger forward and chop ur chassie like u say u plan to do.... it will be ALOT more work if u want to put longer springs back in!

welll then explain to us whatr they are used for? as far as i no they are there simply to keep all the leafs together and straight and to stop it before it flexes to far for the spring to handle . and well my schakles measure 10.5" so if u think about it its more like 6.5" extended (just put the tape to em )

thanks guys but those spring clamps are there to stop your springs separating and to stop axle wrap because if u cut them off then this allows all your leafs to separate and so makes it alot softer for the axle to twist up as it is only fighting your top spring.
I was going to cut these but then i would of had to make a clamp that had a bolt through the top so they could be kept on or off

Dont get rid of the clamps, if they are the folded over variety just bend them back vertical and drill holes for a bolt and crush tube, also give a bit of space between the tube and spring and make sure the leaves can move freely in the clamp.
What i plan to do, for now anyway, is convert my 6leaf + load spring into 4 leaf +load spring. Plus do the inverted shock and if needed a track bar. But hopefully with a load spring still in there that wont be necessary.
Eventually i might go mazda bravos, but if i can enough flex in the rear to match the front with that first setup, ill be happy. Coz the rears move SFA at the moment.

same with my rears they were 7 leaf plus load carrying but i took out the load carrying plus 2 leaves so now i just have a 5 in there but made sfa difference that is why i need other options

what do u mean by 2oomm centre to centre? doe that just mean a shackle that is 20 cm from where the spring connects to wear the hanger does?
AZA has been telling me to go the ifs and use an extended shackle say abitou 6-8 inch.

also BUBs does anyoen make a mount that woudl place the shocks at abotu 15 degrees instead of 45?

also in that pick of the back of your rig of your shock setup did this mount interfer with body or tray? i was probably goiing to just go with the superiorengineering layover shock kit wit rancho rs9012's.

if u think about it if u move the front hanger forward ur shackle will move in that direction to which means it would be like / which is what ur trying to say u dont want can i ask.. what kind of rear setup do u have at the moment? and do u want to modify the old one (a hell of alot of stuffing around!!!) or do u want to change it? (go the ifs!!!!) just so we can better help u out (if it were me i would say NO to mucking around with the hangers and YES to changing to longer springs )

It will help the stability of the vehicle on and off road
the top mount i had wont interfer with a tray, but would with a style side

no i am talking abotu moving the rear shackle mount forward as to have the shackle facing downwards towards the back of the car so that as my wheel drops it can straighten up and gets alot more travel

ok, with IFS rears you wont need to move the mount forward, cause the springs are longer it kinda does

sorry mis understood thought u were talking about moving ur forward one, must have got mixed up cuase of ur pm's , btw like bubs said before.... do u want to make it a short wheel base???? and like i said before what happens when u want even move flex and want to put longer springs in???? haha u just chopped off the hanger u needed , why dont ya get new rear springs and put ur current rears up front

well if u have 4 inch suspension lift u would need about the same size shackles as mine and i got my shackles from bubs

now when you get your springs the front pin wont go through, remove the standard front bush, the large eye one
go to super cheep at browns plains and goto the spare parts counter and ask for a packet of "Kelpro 27014K" holden suspension bushes, these fit perfectly in to the front of the spring and the original pin will go straight in
the bushes will be $25 for both sides
