Navrun presents "The 4 Day Event" in the outback
When: 29th Oct to 1st Nov. 2005
You asked for it - you got it! The "4 Day Event" is a combination of winch challenge, navigation, speed, and short course trials all on one massive outback property near White Cliffs, North West NSW.
There is just one base camp for everyone - competitors, marshalls and spectators. 4wd camper trailers and tents are ideal. Showers and toilets will be on site, but wait, there's more - all breakfasts and dinners will be catered for. Yep, I can see the wife and kids coming to watch this one.
Friday afternoon scrutineering will be just class measurement to ensure you slot into the correct CCDA class. In accordance with CCDA vehicle specs (more info on the Navrun website). The classes will be Touring, Trophy and Challenge. There are no supplementary regulations, which means no tyre size limit in Challenge class.
Typically every day will have 1 speed trial, 1 winch stage, 1 navigation and 1 short course. Vehicles will rotate through these in their respective groups. Each night there is 1 further stage where all vehicles are together and groups do not apply. (All up - 20 stages) Progressive scores will be announced every morning and there will be a re-sorting of groups accordingly. Vehicles will be sorted into 4 groups every day according to performance. The top 25% are together, the second 25% are together, the third 25% are together and the tail ending 25% are together. The Friday night prologue sorts out Saturday's groups. Classes are merely for fair performance assessment and prize giving. As all classes do the same courses (chicken routes with penalties exist) groupings will not be affected by classes.
Hobzee and Rudes have been organising events for years and are known for their innovative and exciting ideas. You can expect to see the Navrun cameras getting used in navigation stages, decisions will be placed upon you for varied point alternatives, more thought and strategy will have to be applied to winching stages so it's not just about speed and muscle.
The all inclusive price is $650 per competing person (only two per team = $1300), $325 per adult spectator, $165 per child spectator under 16 and free to marshalls. Since dinner and breakfast is included for everyone we need to know in advance so even the spectators and marshalls need to register in advance.
Sponsors will be announced immediately upon coming on board. There will be a massive free presentation bon fire party on the Tuesday night where trophies and prizes (worth way more than the entry fee) will be awarded for each class.
There's no mucking around and you don't have to take too much time off work. Turn up Friday afternoon and head off as early as Tuesday night, having done 20 really full on stages in outback terrain. What a BLAST!

So, whats in being a marshall? Could be interested Mr...
Well basically we require a marshall to have some 4wd knowledge which I knowyou have.This incorporates safety, recovery, etc All marshals are catered for breakfast & dinner. Without going into it too much you will be in charge of certain stages throughout the 4 days.
There will of course be more than one marshal per stage..

Own cars and recovery gear required? Camping in tents or Park Royal??????
Hey hey, great to see keen marshalling responses - We will make sure Marshalls get treated really well as this is a key issue to happy competing. Would need a car between 2 people and marshall recovery gear would only be needed to recover themselves if need be. Pro Comp will provide the gear for competitor recovery so marshalls don't wear out their own straps and stuff. Navrun also supplies the gear such as signage, bunting, poles, etc.
We want every stage to be pre driven to maybe avoid more Yellow Submarines. I can do this in battle GU but if a marshall wants to take their own battle rig and test out the tracks as well I'm more than keen to stand back and watch - the more the merrier in fact. Hey, we can even have our own inter marshall challenge to see which marshall has the goods.
As for training if we can get some / all marshalls along to CCDA marshall training that would be great. At least stage managers should have some training or stage experience. Navrun would be prepared to pay for costs. As the CCDA marshall training is so new I expect some states will not even have training days by Nov'05 so let's see how it goes.

CCDA training for marshalls will be taking place in March in Vic, with 2 theory nights, 1 on the west and 1 on the east followed by a practical weekend in Waragul. The program is well underway and you'll need to be a member of the CCDA to participate.

4-Day (Update)
Property - Heard back today from property owner. He reckons there are parts he hasn't seen and his family is first to settle the land - like that's no man's land... Also been told to allow 4-5 hours to get from one side to the other - cool huh? Neighbours want in too so even more land. Includes clay pans, rocks and sand.
Catering organised - B'fast is cerial and fruit as well as bacon, eggs, sausages and fried tomatoes and wait ..... pancakes... Yeee Haa! I'm gonna stop eating now to make room..
