Anyone ever thought of supercharging a 3.5ltr V8?
Anyone ever done it?!!
I haven't, but have thought it might sound fun for when I don't have anything else to spend cash on!
What issues would you guys see? Would it be worth it?!!

After doing plenty of research I have given up any idea of playing with the rover v8. The value of some upgrades are questionable and when your pushing towards 10g just to get a complete replacement 4.6V8 it seems very unrealistic. Supercharging the rovers also doesn't yeild any significant power gains (compared to chev's and even yota motors). I'm gonna save my pennies for an ls1 (or ls2 if its available when I finally get money to do something -> new 6.0l as used in HSV's with 297kw and 530NM and plenty more on tap). Due to the ever increasing aftermarket support for the current commdores with the ls1's you can unlock power for a much lower price and a 400kw motor is quite achievable.
I have seen a couple of supercharged LRV8's in magazines. The last one I saw in OZ was a 110 with a supercharged V8 - think it was a 3.9 or 4.6 though, not a 3.5.
There are a few companies in the UK that do it, (JE Engineering???) and I think somewhere in WA too. There has been a thread on here before.

So he purchased a 86 rangie injected, stole the axles and injection onto/into the 109 chassy.
He has recently got a new computer (lots of head ackes) and all up has spent at least $$5 grand super charging, not wanting to run the rear tank he used the side ones instead with a "swell pot" and new pump as he has the 6x6 adaptor on the LT 95 running the pto winch (midmounted) under the tray, he had no room for the tank, and better aproach angle up front.
Runing 35 centerpeids arb's front and rear with mals shafts, with standard stub shafts on the front for easy replacement and cheaper.
I hope that helps at all, he thinks he's got about as mch power as a 5 litre
and yeah it goe's .

The super charger is a small centrafugal type (pay no attention to my spelling) that can fit easily to a large variety of vehicles, very universal.
I have a digital camera on the way and will get some pics as soon as i know how to show them. stay tuned, and thats if he lets me show them on the net. It's up to him.

My mate has a 4L supercharged disco motor in his Rangie, I think it may be an eaton supercharger but an old style one. The engine lacks low down torque, my mildly worked gq 4.2 petrol pulls harder low in the revs but once it comes on boost it is goodbye. Has about 160-170kw at the wheels i think. Enough to get the wheels spinning in the dry.

'92 Rangie Sherwood/turbo intercooled isuzu4BD1 /ACE/ full leather/2.5" exh/2.5" body lift/DeCarbon shocks/LR tanks/LT95 back in and OK now, Sals conversion soon...
i am planning on fitting a Procharger supercharger with a large intercooler in the grill section, they have one which they fit to the cobra v8s, it provides about 60% addtional more hp at 9 psi ... a RR should be able to run 10 psi max if all is running good .. the alloy heads can take more as they cool better then steel ... and the intercooler provides the reliability and prevents detonation ... etc ... i would not waste my time with a Roots type as they are very difficult to intercool and with out an intercooler you will not get the full potentional HP of the SC ..

Have supper charged a couple of rovers it can b a big pain in the arse u should first use a surpentine belt so as to cut down on pulleys on front of motor, we tend to just fit strokers for power upgrades now we have gone out as far as 5.2 liters now but if the customer insists on fitting a blower we will still do it, just seems to be to cluttered under bonnet when it is all done.

Davis performance Landies (previously John Davis motorworks) have been supercharging V8 rovers for years.I seem to remember that John drove a Green supercharged Rangie around for quite some time.And also sold a number to the Saudis including the royal family,that were extremely well performed.

Unless its intercooled on the intake side, which is very rare, I doubt it. It looks like a powerdyne supercharger which generally only puts out around 9 psi max in standard form. Most of the time I think they are run at around 6 psi so there is no need for a intercooler as superchargers can run quite cool (compared to turbo's).
It looks like a nice setup still. You can see half the aftermarket goodies he's put on. Be interesting to see what exactly has been done to the motor.
Just looking and I found a very similar kit on the capa website (wondered where I knew all that stuff from). Could be this kit with some upgrades or a completely custom kit.

There is no intercooler, and all the after market parts for the super charger were super priced, as the guy installing the stuff was his first ever . I keep forgetting the brand dynatron or something ???

Ouch!! See those prices?! Would putting a larger engine in would be cheaper, cause you'd still have to do all the work on the 3.5 to make sure it could handle the added pressure from the super-charger??

Thats why in my first reply I said I wouldn't bother doing anything to the rover v8 'cept maybey some exhaust or electric thermo's to fill in till the new engine. My engine of choice would be the gen3 ls6 (slightly updated of ls1). Can be had for around $7000 new, are aluminium too and are a 5.7l v8 not a pissy little 4.0L. Only trade off is to have a good gearbox to take the power, have an overdrive and still be electronically controlled (I have a feeling it needs to electric to pass emissions, but this is just a stab in the dark) which costs around $3500. The tranny is the 4L80e for those that are interested. Could use the 4l60e although its not built to take as much torque. I have also thought about a TH-700r (manual of 4l60e) and getting it toughened if emissions are not a concern. Its nice to dream
Supercharging a 3.5 rover V8 was more of a learning experience than a power upgrade,i new i could fit a larger motor but what would i have learn't?now i know what fuel flows and pressures get up to with forced induction,when boost comes on and when you're on vacuum.EFI is all new to me aswell and after having aftermarket engine management fitted i have come to appreciate how much work goes into a stock factory ecu,tuning takes a long time and repeated visits to get it right.it cost quite a bit more than expected but i have a pretty trick set up now,just have to get out and enjoy it now.
