Hi everybody. The wagon's coming along slowly, but surely. I'll have to get some pics posted up here after xmas.
Just wanting everybody's opinion on what shackles i should get. The cars just had Ironman suspension put on it (leafs, bushes, shocks etc.)
Also wanting to know of a good steering damper.

for standard hieght suspension, just a monroe dampener would do fine.
if u lift her up etc. go for a RTC ( return to centre ) steering dampener from someone like '4 way'. they are the goods.
With the shackles you can use standard ones easily enough, though if you want a little lift etc then go 2 inch longer.
I personally wouldnt go any longer than 2 inch extended in teh shackles as it throws out castor angles too bad and puts for stress on the mounts, especially the front ones as bazzle said.

The front ones u can make urself....
just 50x8 flat steel to the length you want with 2 holes in it and some bolts if the ones u have already arnt usable...
best to put a small steel brace in the middle of this but not necessary, jjust reccomended as u risk bending them. that brace would need to be welded....
the rears are much harder to make with the bends in them. You would need an OXY.
the stock shackles if you were to use them front and rear doesnt matter on brand, ironman, factory nissna, they are all more or less the same thing...
no one makes extended shackles as they are not engineered, at least not here in NSW, so usually they need to be made....
not sure but BBM offroad or snake racing etc, or Cheezy racing probably sell extended shackles and can make em for u.

Ironman suspension eh? How does it flex with 11 leaves in the rear? Thats what the salesman told me they had and according to him 9 in the front.... would be interested to find out how it flexes hey... Keep us informed Coxy.

cause i need to buy some to make some new rears for mine....
Iron mans work well if u get the thick leaved packs and reduce the number of leaves in the pack.
just make sure u take the right ones out cause otherwise they wont last long at all.
i pulled the right ones out of the rear of mine, but the wrong ones out of the front so now i need new fronts.

I've got the bullbar, tow bar, back bar and rear wheel carrier off (took it all off last weekend) in the hope that i'd have it all cleaned up with new paint before xmas. I think that tonight's my last chance, as i've been flat stick delivering electrical goods to last-minute shoppers in the 38 degree heat. Gotta love it.
If i can get it all tidied up before xmas i'll take some snaps to post up here. The key word being "if".

Hi everybody! Hope you all had a good new year etc. etc.
Okay. I have gotten around to painting all that stuff (except the wheel carrier- getting a work lamp thingy), and it has all come up quite good. I've also got myself a pair of Night Vision driving lights (smallish round ones) and fitted them. One of my mates is chasing up a Warn high-mount 8000lb for me for about $350 of his old mans truck, in good condition.
I got my old rims back yesterday from the abrasive blaster guy, and painting them is my next job. Going for gloss black. Should go nicely with the 33" Mongrels - when i eventually get them.
In the mean time, I'm going to chase up some of those extended greasable shackles, RTC steering damper, and maybe a 2" body lift kit.
Only thing I'm worried about is running into trouble putting the lift kit in with the shackles. (I think I'll go with the Superior stuff).
Eg. When i put the suspension in, i got the front drivers side done easy, but the front left, and two rear ones had to be done at the mechanics cause all of the anchor pin bolts were seized, (i mean SEIZED!!!). Cost me $250 in labour and took 2.5 days to do.
Any advice on this? Can anyone see problems allready? Like extending brake lines, fuel lines etc??? I just dont want to get caught out cause i dont have the right tools, or something else needs replacing or extending etc. I love working on my car, and (IMHO) think I'm quite competant, BUT, i HATE getting halfway through something, to find I can't finish the job, cause I've overlooked something, or something needs replacing.
Another quick question. The car's got the deluxe chrome chequer-plate side steps (looks good, but wont slide on stuff). As the chassis has no decent size holes to fit big (10-12mm) holes to support some steel tube slider bars in, is it okay for me to drill some holes into the chassis??
Can anybody get discount from Playtime 4X4 (the closest Superior Engineering dealer to me) ??
