Lpg electrics

Post by Torden »

G'day all, I have been installing my own lpg kit and have gotten to the electrical component of the install. I have been checking my installation with a local lpg installer who is certified but when he explained how to wire up the kit I nodded but was not entirely sure how to do what he was saying.

Anyway, I have wired up the feeds from the tank to the safety switch/box as well as to the neg' on the coil and the converter diode. I am left with the lpg fuel gauge, installing a switch on the dash as well as splicing into the injector wireing in the driver's footwell. Oh' and the fuel pump too!

Is there anyone out there that can get me through this last bit as electrics is not my forte' (read. electrically challenged), and I don't want to get this wrong and have the gas installer knock it back and get me to do it again.

It's a '93 v8i Disco (fuel injected)

TIA and merry xmas!.

donot stop the fuel pump
cut in to the relay for the injuctor and stop them
as for the gauge it should be marked + - sender
gas swich (1) power switch the switch so that power gose to safty switch to run on gas to run on fuel use the power off the switch to run the injuctor relay
make sure u leve the fuel pump runing all the time or it will fuk the injuctor up
ok it was me

If you run the fuel all the time and happen to run it out of fuel it will destroy itself - the fuel pump in the rangies and the discos like most in tank pumps rely on the fuel for lubrication and will spark etc and burn out.

How will it screw up the injector, there is fuel in the line and if you start up on fuel then you injectors have fuel in them at least until tomorrow ?

I have run this setup for 30,000K with original injectors (160,000K on the car) without an injector problem - is the only problem you see that the injectors will dry out ?

It is correct to run the fuel pump when the vehicle is on LPG as the injectors will overheat. this is why EFI vehicles have stickers telling the operator to keep at least 1\4 of a tank minimum. It is also a requirement of regulations to use an auto change over system and a gas processor\feedback system on EFI vehicles but this is not required for the system to operate.
Also there is no need for a LPG safety switch. Use the fuel pump relay output to operate the LPG system as this will turn off the LPG system and fuel pump circuit as it would normally.

The regulatory stuff is for Vic but I don't know for other states. And fit whatever system you are comfortable with, this is how I was taught to fit LPG to EFI.
