my brother has one on his 60# cruiser .
a bit slow but dose the job.
the 1st time i used it up a track the weld broke on the winch drum .
it was fixed by tjm .now it works good.
but he has it for sale now and is going to put a t-max 9500lb electric winch
on. if u any-one wants to buy a nearn new ox hyd winch .
make an offer . i think they retail for around $2450-00 ?

sell for $2000-00.

Byron,

I would recommend using an oil cooler with these winches, even with a light duty cycle, the system gets HOT. Oil then breaks down and damages power steering pump and box etc. I think OX make a cooler kit, or you can use something like Mazda RX7 engine oil cooler, Big and easy to mount, easy to buy.

I've got a 10 000lb Ox hydraulic on my Rodeo. Doesn't get much use however has worked extemely well when I have used it. It certainly is slow but you can speed it up by increasing engine RPM. The manual says to use synthetic oil in your power steering system if you use the winch a lot.

I didn't shop around when I got mine as it was free from work. I just had to buy the $210 Rodeo hydraulic hoses and already had an ARB winch bar. So I didn't choose it over another brand.

I'd recommend it. From memory it's heaps lighter than an electric winch too.

I have one of the troopy (10000lb) and I reckon they are the ducks guts.

I've done some long recoveries (and multiple vehicle) and have never had a problem with heat. They'll certainly go a lot longer than an electric winch of any description.


they are SLLLOOOOWWWW, but then if you are not racing, that is the way all recoveries should be.

Are they the same as the Milemarker?

If so, I have read some pretty bad reviews on the in US mags.

Yes - for more speed. Hyd motor speed = pump speed x pump displacement / motor displacement. With the right pto pump they can be fast, but it will cost $$.

I heard that the Ox hydraulic and the Ox electric were made by different manufacturers.

If you where to fit a bigger motor for speed would you lose any pulling power ??? of whould you get stronger pump plus speed ???

A bigger motor will be slower, but torque will be greater.

Torque (Nm) = pump or motor displacement (cm^3/rev) x pressure (bar) / 20 pi

A bigger pump will give more flow, so motor will turn faster.

Higher pressure will give more torque. Pressure should be adjusted within the operating limits of the pump, motor and valves to protect against overload of the winch rope.

Power (kW) = flow rate (litre/min) x pressure (bar) / 600

A counterbalance valve will act as a brake, ie no mechanical brake required.
