Maxi-Drive Switch Alternatives
Is anyone aware of a 12-volt solenoid operated control valve suitable for use on a vacuum system? I want to replace my push/pull Maxi-Drive switches with electric. It would be nice to have front, rear and centre all switchable with toggles and in reach of my co-driver.

If the main requirement is the toggle switch, you can swap the push/pull switches for pneumatic toggle switches.

I know I have used the clippard vacuum switches for compressed air with no problems.

Thanks guys. ISUSUROVER that switch does look OK and I checked out the web site, thanks. Some pneumatic valves are not suitable for vacuum use because it can compromise the seals or jam the spool. I will have a chat with a SMC, Festo, Norgren or whatever rep. Thanks again.

Glad it was of some help.
You can run the Maxi-Drives from 15-20psi compressed air (I run mine on 15psi compressed air because I have no vacuum system on the diesel) - Mal said any more than 20psi would bend the tab on the actuator (15psi is the vacuum pressure the system is designed to operate at).
So if you have an on-board air compressor you would be able to use any pneumatic switch to work the lockers.

That's a rather interesting option.
If you decide to go with compressed air Andy, my advice would be to source a decent regulator to limit air pressure to 15 psi. Don't buy a cheap one from SupaCheap, they are a woeful rip-off. SMC make a beauty, very precise. The price differance is only $15, both made in China funnily enough.
Plus having only 15-20psi to deal with would open more options for cheaper solenoids - if you place them after the regulator that is.
SMC make lots of goodies that would suit and seem cheap than Norgren.
Don't bother with their website, go into a store a grab all the info you can.

I run 2 SMC combined regulators/oil-water separators (one at the outlet for the York, one to step down from 120psi to 15psi for the Maxi). Both of mine are made in Japan, not china, and are worth every cent.
With the air tanks I can switch the Maxi-Drive on and off about 50 times with the york off.

Is the york on the county or the series? If it's on the county do you also have a/c? If so I would love to see some piccies of how you have it set up.

I am fortunate enough to be a fitter and turner working in high speed packaging at our nations finest Brewery and I have access to top quality SMC products at a great price I can grab a mini-reg but we don't have any 12 volt directional control valves here. I will just need to talk to our rep about 12 volt gear and either find a use for it here at work or sweet talk him into a great deal.
I only asked the question as I thought there may have been a cheap over the counter alternative but I have learned heaps.
I will have to wait until the new year but I will pursue this. Great to hear we can run low pressure air and I will look into that too.
I imagine Mal is right and we wouldn't want to go any higher than 15psi given the size of the piston in the linear actuator. I would like to run ARB type rocker switches and 12 volt DCV's.

No the York is on the IIA. I have a Sanden 508 waiting to go on the county but it will be a VERY tight fit (I very much doubt I could fit a york). I have a mate with a 508 on his 3.9 county, and I should be able to get you some pictures - It is mounted on the RHS and the brackets are VERY complicated. I want to see if I can put mine on the LHS, it will be an easier installation but an even tighter fit (both county's have air con). Let me know if you want pics and I will see what I can do.
