Hey y'all just bought myself a 78 rangie running LPG thru a holley....just wondering about pros and cons over original ie how steep a hill you can climb without running outa fuel in the carb etc. any advice muchly apreciated

I believe the original twin strombergs do an awesome job off road compared to the aftermarket holleys which dont like the angles! ;)

The twinscarbies are the go, work on any angle, take a bit of tuning to get right, a Holley unless set up by an expert on offroad Holleys, will give you grief. Though LPG will also work on any angle.

What size holley is it. The standard twin carbs stangle the motor and will not allow it to rev out. If you are running on gas, the angles do not matter. I run a 500 holley on gas, the holley on petrol will run on everything except the steepest drop offs. You just make sure you are running gas on the really steep stuff and petrol will be OK on the rest,

There are trade-offs with both styles. Holleys perform better on-road, but crap off-road performance unless set-up properly. LPG is a saviour here for the flood/starve issue, may be wrong. Twin strommies are great off-road, smooth on-road but have lacklustre performace on-road.

I just had a 3.9 EFI 93 Rangie and have gone back to a sluggish twin carb fed 3.5 83 Rangie. A bit of a difference :bad-words:

But all aside, stick with the standard gear for off-road. less headaches if you ask me.

Can't say I had any revving out problems with my carbies, 6500rpm even with the 3.9 motor under them. I did have them re-jetted and had made flow improvements to the standard manifold, major grinding/filing before porting & rough polishing.
