Hey i'm looking at buying a toyota surf 1990 model, is a good clean car but i'm wondering wot there 4wd capabilities are? i'm also wondering if they have any major probs that people know about?

You wont be disappointed if you get one. Go to the surf site that RV posted.
They have their problems, as do all cars, but offroad they are just as capable as any (Im sure some will argue with me here haha)

I have had mine for 3 years now and been going offroad with people off the surf site for 6 months and have never had any major dramas (besides stuffing the rear diff on the first trip) We have people with patrols, landcruisers, pajeros, hiluxs, 4runners that come out with us and occasionally the patrol has made it a little further than the surf before gettin stuck, but overall they are a damn good offroader (I say that cos I love my surf :) )
