strange noise during 4wd'ing

Hope you all are relaxing now during Christmas!

Decided to wrote and ask if someone have some clue what can be the cause of my strange ferroza behaviour when i switch to 4wd. Well..it was like this:

Some time ago i was getting back to home while some pretty heavy storm catched me. i thought that it would be better to go 4wd in this heavy rain so i switched normal 4wd mode. Couple of days after i switched my 4wd on too:
- went couple metres ahead (have automatic locking hubs)
- after the hubs were locked when i turn left or right (even small turn) there comes very unfriendly noise from the front wheels, it sounds like a noisy knocking from left or right wheel, depending on what direction i am turning my car.

I noticed that it comes only when turning the steering wheel left/right in the 4wd mode. It does not come when going straight ahead (without turning wheels) on the road unless it's snowed or mudded with a lot's of holes.

Any ideas what could happen? Seems that my locking hubs are working because i can switch back to 2wd but this noise and knocking makes 4wd'ing impossible.

I have to do something as i want to go into snowed mountains soon. My girlfriend will kill me if we don't go skiing

What can i do to fix it? Anyone had the same problem?

have you looked under? I would start with the cv shafts to the hubs. See if excess sideways movement? Or could even be the CV's themselves.

It could be a number of things, make sure the frt hubs are fully locking in. If they are and it is only knocking in 4wd then it coul;d be your frt cv joints, or frt wheel bearing, you could also be getting a knock caused through a failure in you frt diff.

Thanks, i will check all these things. My front wheel bearings were replaced for new ones in August so should be ok..

hi

I finally found some time to look under my feroza and try to fix some things related to my suspension. I noticed (should see it long time ago - lame! ) that my roza is lifted on the torsion bars. What was pretty dizzy was that the right torsion bar was about 4-5cm higher than left! I fixed that and lowered my car to make it soften and guess what 4x4 started working now!

So it seems that that nasty knocking from the wheels that made me unable to use 4x4 was related with the incorrect high between the left and right side ?? What do you think guys?

Anyway, i have my off-road capabilities back

It is unlikley but possible that your CV's were on a too greater angle to provide drive, as they may have been binding up on them selves. Either this or the angle that the shafts went into the hubs may have been to great and was not able to lock into FWD.

Good to hear all it well with little or no cost involved though.
