Ques about SR20 engine

Post by crowey »

Hi Guys

I have an SR20 in a Nissan Pulsar.
Yesterday it started running like a dog and missing (sounds like its running on 3 1/2 cylinders) the thing is that i have checked all the plugs and leads, they all seem to be fine and if i pull 1 lead off at a time it makes a difference, so all 4 are working.

If you put your foot down it will surge and coff, it doesnt blow any smoke either, oh and i run 98 octane always in it.

Any ideas on what else i can check??

What are the symptoms for stuffed injectors / sensors etc etc??

Thanks

Jarrad

Jarrad, the SR20 manuals are on the internet somewhere (a guy at work downloaded them recently.) They may help you get the fault codes out of the ECU.

Other than that, check the basics first: fuel filters, air filter, exhaust restrictions, coil etc. Often the electronics are not to blame. ;)

I own 3 sr's and it seems to be somewhat of a common problem, when starting up it sounds liek it runs on 3 cylinders, give it a rev and its fine. I have fixed mine i suggest the following

leads, plugs, make sure you gap plugs, then if that doesnt work, rotor button and cap, also, it would be good to put the car on a dyno and check if its tunning lean, my car everyso often would run like shit, turns out it looks like the pump was crapping itsself, and slowly dying, as it was lean the knock sensor was pulling timing out all the time.

Fixed the pump and now its fine.

and for the guy who wants a s15 wiring diagram what is your email, i have a s15 manual in pdf here i could send the relevent pages to you if i figure out how to use acrobat...

Is yours an SR20DET or SR20DE?
Interesting, 1st time hearing a Pulsar owner in this forum.

WHy dont u do a compression test to check if u're loosing compression?
Maybe time to check the MAF and the knock sensor.
Let me try to find my workshop manual.

And a GTI-R interior in it

Looks alright, would put some piccys up but they are not on a site so i cant sorry.

You may have already checked, but sometimes the spark plug wells fill with water and stuff. Worth cleaning them out, and blowing them dry with air occassionaly. christover

Yeah i actually found that there was a little bit of dampness on the bottom of the leads, near the spark plug. gave them a bit of a spray and aired them over night...... still doing it!

Its going in to a mates work shop tomorrow to get the laptop plugged into it and put on the dyno, so ill let you know the outcome
