Dtronic

Post by mabsydney »

I was in ARB today and they were telling me what a big improvement the Dtronic chip would make to a 3L GU. They also said you will see another level of improvement if you have the truck dyno'd so it is optimised for your vehicle.

I wonder if the whole Dtronic thing has an affect on reliability and longevity of the engine...

Anybody know?

generaly i go by 2 rules when it comes to upping HP.

1 If you want more power, you need to use more fuel (and i have yet to be proven wrong on this one)

2 If you squeez more ponies out of an engine, its life will shorten

It all depends on how much more power you try and get out of an engine. Typically ive heard great things about the Dtronic chip, however it hasnt been long since they have been available and no one has been able to determine"yes it shortens the engine life by XXXXX amount of Km's" or "no it doesnt do anything to its longetivity"

All engines have a power limit, i doubt that the Dtronic chip takes the 3L engine past its safe operating limit, otherwise they'd be out of business, but the closer you run to the safe operating limit, the shorter its going to last.
