Holden 308 conversion

Holden 308 conversion
Im thining about using an early 2 door RR as a project rig. My question is what is involved in puttin in a holden 308 carby motor in place of the 3.5 V8 and what gearbox would be best suited to this conversion. Auto or manual it doesnt matter as im not fussed either way.

The standard LT95 4 speed would best be suited if you want to stay with the manual, but a turbo 400 or 700 auto would be worth considring.
Personally, I prefer autos as an off-road gearbox. Apart from the downhill stuff, they kill manuals in every other area. I have owned three Rangie, two of which were auto includimng my current Rangie.

What about using a ZF auto box from a later range rover. Marks makes an adaptor for this box and ppl are running 300bhp 4.6 hse motors with them so they mush be strong enough. That means I can use a later model LR transfer case without needing an adaptor. Im also considering choppin off the back of the chassis (Bobtailing) and replacing the rangie body with series panels. Making a 100" defender type vehicle. If anyone has any info on this please post up.

Sam (Strange Rover) has a series body on rangie chassis.

Holden Engine in RR
Holden or a chev is the way to go.

1: 5 lt HSV engine to a RR with ZF.

In an early RR your optins are:
1 Use the 4 speed as it is with a holden engine.
2 Change to a 5 speed (They do break with lots HP)
3Turbo 400 with LT230 t/case.
4ZF 4 speed and LT230 t/case.
4 speed RR bosex are almost bullet proof as is the t400.
For a vehicle that is going to be used for extreme uses the R380 box is the choice of 5 speeds.
Marks 4x4 and castlemaine rod shop both have conversions to suit.
Manual kits marks is the better option.
Auto kits I prefer CMRS as they dont use the holden flywheel in the conversion.
