rock sliders
rock sliders
who got 'em?
did ya make them yourself and how
the plastic skirts on my coiler are always comming off and the sills have been taken a beating latley. i should do something soon before damage them some more.
thinking 'bout some 6mm alum. un-equal angle ("L" shaped) that would run about 85m up the outside of the car and about 25mm running under. them pop rivet the think to the car.

i don't need no stinking quote for my sig. line!
Hey Stu,
That would be the same thinking i have... i think you can just drill / grind out the welds that hold the brackets on to the sill that the plastic hold on to.
My only suggestion would be that you use something stronger than aluminum as i gather it would get stuck on rocks rather than slide over it. And you may also want to drill some holes on the under side of the sliders to allow you to get a screw driver up into the sill drainage holes to let any water out that gets up there.
Cheers mate.

Nah I have been using aluminum checkerplate for mine for the last 6 years and it works fines. Strong enough to hi lift from only got one dent in em from a sharp rock that I lent on and used too much right foot to get off. Basically I just rivetted the plate to the body and folded the edge under the car so it was resting against the lip.

But grimbo that was my whole point... you got hung up on it because the rock dug into the slider - hense, it did not slide.
that is why i am suggesting using something stronger so that it will not get scraped (i.e. friction will be reduced) and you can effectively slide the car over it. i think this is what stevoe has on the G right?

maybe but it would have done the same thing if it was steel I reckon i was pretty wedged on. It was at Weribee on the rocky gully on that last rock i got caught, stupid line, and bammo a dent. Other times I have used it to pivot around things without a worry. Also the little bit of give in aluminium should shrug off damage where the steel won't give and could pull out rivets and do more damage
