It is the japanese model verse the koren model, depending what factory they are made in determines what housing they have. Koren (or skinny) being the least common. The same still applies to air filters and afew other bits in the latest model.

Ruff, the tubes are smaller but the same thickness in material. of the top of my head one tube is 3 inch and one 3.5.

The bigger housing (left) is from a '90 diesel. The smaller one (right) is from an '85 diesel:

There's about 10mm difference in diameter between the two housings.

Big difference in the size of the drums too.
