Long Travel shocks for GU patrol
Long Travel shocks for GU patrol
Just wanting to know what you would receommend for a standard long trave shock i.e. i mean by just bolt in long travel, no modifying shock towers or cutting mounts off to make them suit.

Tough dogs are oversize if you ask me. Such a big shock yet they have two pissy little tabs holding the pins on. Dodgy as. Old man emu are just an overpriced Monroe shock. Ranchos come with no warranty.
You can get the greatest amount of drop travel and have your wheels dropping in the biggest holes and it looks good but you will lose up travel which is as important as down travel.
You need to find a shock that will give you the right combination.
Pro Comp would be the way I would be going.

Im happy with my ranchos- got them cheap through work. But they are too short, even though i asked for ones to suit a 3-4 inch lift they stop down travel even before the swaybars do.
GU ZD30#2 , 4 inch T/D lift, 33inch MT/Rs, 35 inch buckshots, sliders, snorkel, dents and scratches. Now with front locker and rockhoppers.......GO THE NISSAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i new i was forgetting something i shoudl have also added the EFS range and dobinson i hear the dobinson shocks are only about $200 a pair and they have a massive bore which i think is quite cheap @ $100 per shock

Hmmm interesting...I have OME on the GU and am very happy with the performance, I have ranchos with the incab in the GQ and me thinks they are pure shite. The problem is tough dog has the big bore but as ludacris says they dont seem to have strong retainers??????? + reports don't seem to be much better on them anyway.
Some feed nack on others would be most helpfull as I want to lift the GU a bit more shortly.

If the above post did not offend you in any way please PM me so I can try harder!!
You could also list the TJM X-cell adjustables but I have a sneaky suspicion that they are just painted tough dogs. they look exactly the same and TJM are developing an incar adjuster for them as we speak.

they have been working on that for ~8mths!
I reckon you could fit the rancho adjuster to them anyway.

There is generally only one answer for these much asked shock questions and that is Koni!. When will people learn that all that budget Brazilian or Mexican manufactured junk just wont work on the heavy Nissans or Toys in OZ.

We replace a lot of these with Koni 88 series and the difference is well worth the money spent. You can actually run a heavy lifted truck without major body roll. The Pro-comps seem to be better than a few of the other imports but still have Rancho quality bushes.

Up to what lift in inches do EFS supply for a GQ GU.
I know lots of people running pro comps without a problem.
I have not had anything to do with Konis so I cannot comment on them although I have heard that they are good but very exy.
