how much for 1hz?
i want to flog off my 1HZ, 280 000kms, well looked after and serviced.
any guides as to how much i should ask for it.
also any one know a good place to get either a low mile 1HZ or 1HDT in Bris area?
no piss takes on the price either, i know that its worth more than a dollar!!!

Hi There is a place called japanese imports or imported engines up north that bring in hdft's from japland for 9-12k...your motor is worth what someone is willing to pay...seen them for 2500-3500. Best way to get a good price and sell it this century is offer testdrive b4 its pulled...put the small tyres and some onion juice in the tank b4 hand...lol

for those of you who think it is suspect....
i am an engineer for an exploration company, my employer wants me to use my own vehicle on a job that will require me to be self sufficient in the middle of the desert for several months at a time. would you take a 280 thousand kay motor into the middle of the desert when you only know the history of the last 20k? i can't rebuild a motor myself (the rest of the driveline i can), so that means pay some bastard big bikkies or swap another low km motor (this i can do myself)

A 1HZ if looked after will be reliable for 500,000km
Get a full service done at a Yota dealership - they'll take car of anything before it goes bush - heaps cheaper!! Get a set of injectors - pump overhauled - shims done - water pump/thermostat replaced and have the alternator/starter motors checked out.
A good service will keep up the never say die relaibility of the 1HZ!
If the car was an ex govt module - then servicing should have been kept up to it - mine was ex SEC and they did everything!

I think its good advice, tell the dealer what your plans are, and that you will be calling them to come and fix it if it dies.. they will tell u to fuck off, but hey you get the message across to them...
Basically 200,000 its just run in....

good for 500k
If you search my posts you will note that i have had a head go in one of our two work troopies (160k and 270k). while it still runs if you keep adding a few litres of water every couple hundred kays, thats not really something i would like to see happen a few hundred kays of sand from the nearest town.
still theres no counting for the lemon factor i suppose.

Yep - other factors contribute to heads going bang - crap oil/fuel etc for starters(overheat the heads). Ultimately take some basic precaustions and pack some spare parts in and you'll be fine - get all the hoses replaced as well and then see how you go. I wouldn't go to the expense of a brand new donk for a work ute/scenario though.
I can advise - add in an additional fuel filter before the factory setup - you can never take enough precautuions with fuel. Get an oil cooler hooked up as well - thats always a good thing as well. Simple precautions will provide longevity in a cruiser.

Another option:
Get the company to provide a novated lease for a new vehicle. You then get the reliability of a new vehicel with the tax benifits of paying for the costs before tax. handy if your an engineer away from home for extended periods.
Mind you knowledge of a truck inside and out is important in your situation, and you only have 20,000km personal experience on the existing truck.
