Manual lock up converters in auto's
Anybody had much experience with using manual lockup converter switches in offroad use and whether they can take the strain of low range use.
Do they actually lock up 100% to stall in low 1st?
Could you use one to clutch start an auto?
Are some better than others?

Rodney from Wholesale automatics in Melb (he mods the extreme trannies) does a kit to manually override the computer on most trannies...have a search for extreme transmissions or wholesale transmissions on the net and you will come accross his web page...very professional and informative...states the motor will stall if not switched off....good for low range work....less stress accross the clutch in lower gears too....dont know how the tranny will like shifting with it on though!
Im getting a shift kit put through my valve body this week hopefully....u send it to him, and get it back in a few days modded, or he does a drive in/out service.

I have seen the one way converter before, but also know some people here have had lmanual lock ups, and wonder how many had broken them and whether they would be suitable for my sometimes heavy foot driving style.

This thread is to a mod that reverses the lockup. Essentially it means it's always active, rather than active only when cruising.
The Manual lockup Wholsale Autos makes simply engages the lockup independant of which gear your in (dependent on model), you can turn it off when you dont need it. Two very different systems.
Lifted, locked, loaded, reduced, rolled, and rowed
FZJ80, 1FZ-FE, A442F, 37's & 5.29's.

Yes I realise this but just wanted to hear from anybody with experience in either of the 2 systems, but it seems they are pretty rare.

Tried clutch starting with it?
Does it seem strong enough to take some WOT 1st gear action?
Have you broken it yet?

won't be strong enough to clutch start if you saw what the lock up on converters are they very small and should be used when you want to apply alot of load to it
1st gear action is definately a no no
no not broken still working
i got the manual lock up to slow me down going down hills it works a little still not slow enough though
to be honest i dont even use it that much as when i'm going down a hil its near stop the speed i do and this doesn't do it
