Battle of the Codes 22nd-23rd January - update

Post by Strange Rover »

OK peoples, things are starting to happen with this event. We are getting posters and flyers printed up and these should be getting around stores in Brisbane and Sydney over the weekend and next week.

Image

Offroad Images coming up to get photos of the competition for 4x4 Australia.

Shane Barlow from Off Road Productions is bringing 4 cameras to capture all the action for the video.

Simon and Miranda will be there to do there stuff for 4wdTV

So if you carnt make it there in person you should be able to catch up on all the action.

But of course there isnt going to anything like actually being at this event cause it going to be a bloody big weekend when we find out which machines are the king of 4wd sport.

Q) Why are all the rigs on the poster pretty much rock crawlers and tough trucks? Would of thought One of each?

Just a thought.

The MogRover and Peter Antunacs rigs are TUFF TRUCKS, the two buggys are Rock Buggys and Beebees is basically a allrounder!

The rigs that competing so far are:

Peter Antunac (yellow wheelbarrow)
Cheezy(the mav)
Rob (rockrail)
Mick (mogrover)
Gonads (monster zuke)
Lloyd Mills (75 series Cruza)
Sam Overton(lockless)
Tony(budgie)
Adrian(jeckle)
Rod(tractor)
Boff(trevor the tugboat)
Beebee(hydraulic hilux)
Scott Henry(The Concrete Mixer)
Chris(roc70y)
Sam Keck(overkill tufftruck killing zuke)
Dave Kamp(hilux)

Thats what we got so far.

Now is obvious that we are struggling to get the winch challenge guys which is a shame. We had about 4 lined up but they arnt going to be able to make - it seems that the timing of this comp just isnt right for them. The first comp most of them are aiming for is the Extreme Winch Challenge event 2 weeks afte BOTC.

So we need winch challenge rigs and we can handle more allterrain rigs. And for that matter we can probably take another couple of buggies or tough trucks as well.

So guys if you want to be part of this event and your names not on the list them PM me!!

Sam

Didnt want to put a rig on the poster that wasnt competing - see list above. Would have loved to put a full on winch challenge rig on there but for the momnt they are a bit scarce. So for the rigs we got entred so far I think we got a fairly good spread.

Oh yea - hopefully we should have competitors shirts done up as well. Something with the BOTC logo on the front and a comp rig picture series with the sponsors etc on the back (something similar to the poster but with less detail and less writing)

Now we could also get extra shirts made up if spectators wanted them as well - it will just be a basic screen printed t shirt and would probably sell for about 30 bucks. Good idea or not??

Thing is I really dont want to do my ar$e in on getting to many of these things made. Guess I could just take orders if people are keen enough.

Its just run what you brung. So no specs, no tyre size and you dont need a cage if you got a full hard top (same rules as Woodpecker).

Just a bit more of an update for you all!

Yet again another road trip to the wonderful Rover Park.

Well what can i say, Sam took me through the layout of the stages and man this looks like FUN! There is a bit of everything from High speed twisting tracks between trees to Bouncing over Logs, scratching over big rocks and even some MUD bogging!

I love rockcrawling due to the challenge it presents, but man this event is going to be some serious FUN!!

Below is a bit of a run down of the weekend and a semi detailed discription of each stage!

SATURDAY-

We are going to kick off around 10 am.

The first stage is a Winch challenge style format. It starts down in a gully with a full throttle dirt track out to the top (some sideways action is expected from some of the big V8's), from there they run as fast as they can snaking thier way along a narrow dirt track for about 150 metres. A sharp hairpin turn and back they come threw some nice harsh pebble terrain from here their is a nice little off camber turn and then a little surprise that should snag a few low bellied buggys. Down a nice long climb into a rock creek bed and then for the finale, a full on winch climb out of the creek! This stage will be full throttle with some tricky sections. This event is basically the fastest threw wins!

The next stage is based on the "Woodpecker and Tuff truck" Progression and timed scoring! The further you get the more points you get and if you do get all the way threw it the fastest with least penaties wins!!! (hope that makes sense  )
This stage starts of by crawling over a nice rock pile with a option of either saving some time an dropping over a ledge or taking a slightly safer path and maybe costing a bit of time. A little climb to set you up for a gnarly drop off into a rock creek bed, then winding around picking you way through the creek and then taking on the Rock wall, the rock wall may look simple but once again a little twist has been added.

The next stage on Saturday arvo is based on the PUOSU/Werock/calroc format. The stage starts high and drops down into a rocky creek bed, the stage then goes along for a few metres where picking the right line (or wrong line ;) ) could make all the difference. The stage then splits into two, one line is the normal course then one line is the bonus line. Both lines tack you to the final obstacle, a nice big rock crack that some may have to winch up!

Saturday night (approx 8.30pm) will be a "DRAGS UNDER LIGHTS". The vehicles will race until the fastest rig is found! The atmosphere should be unreal, with Damo and Chris on the PA, plenty of cheers from the crowd and the roar of Cheezy's Mav getting everyone going!

Sunday 9.30am (approx)

The First event will be a timed Slalom course, big rigs trying to flick and slide around barrels, Fastest time wins. A bit of fun to get everyone gee'd up!

Well now time for the FUN bit!

So far we have had a Winch track (mainly dirt), Big Rig track Dirt and Rock) and a Buggy track (95% rock). Well that only leaves on other terrain, yup you guessed it MUD!! A purpose built mud run with buggy swallowing mud traps! Yep purpose built Rock buggys and Tuff trucks taking on MUD!
:D :D :D

Also for a bit off fun (and to make sure the Mud course is well and truely messed up for the comp) we will be having a "PUNTERS RUN" prior to the actual event. Upto 5 rigs from the crowd will have the opportunity to get in there and mix it up. There are two reasons for doing this, one is to settle the track and get it consistant for the comp and two is to get the crowd going.

We hope this will be a FUN weekend with plenty of action for all types to enjoy!

P.S I also saw the area that will be used for WeRock!     :finger:

Definately must be in the rig for the start and finish of the winch section, mud, drags and barrels and if they want to be in the rig for the tough truck course and rockcrawl they can be - but wont be penalised if they are out.

Got a couple of tips for all entrants. Make sure your winch is operational and can pull the weight of your vehicle. Because i doubt many if any will drive every stage without using a winch. Remember there is a Winch Challenge Stage!

Also make sure your rig is not effected by Water as there is an amount of water that wont be so deap it swallows a rig but it may slow you down if water is an issue for you. I know we need to address this with our buggies. Will prob just tarp the front for this short section.

All vehicles must have anything and everything they need for Winching. We will not have any equipment you can Borrow. Winch Cable Damper,Shakles,Tree Trunk Protector,Snatch block,Gloves and decent recovery points are a must. Also remember if you need to Double line pull you will need 2 Dampers.

You shouldnt notice how rough it is this time ;)

There is also electronic Timing on the Drag strip that will be used.
