Respray Questions

Have started the prep for the respray, and i have a few questions for the spray gun or rattle can pros out there:

Windscreen surround, paint it on the car or seperate?

Wipers and washer, remove or just cover in tape?

Doors, paint on the car or seperate?

Bonnet, how to seal from engine bay, to stop motor from copping overspray? (i dont like the smell of burning paint)

Maybe more questions to come, ill find out as i continue to pull the little bits off.

I found with mine it is easier to take the doors and bonnet off. Just mask the engine off. Take wipers off and just mask the small connector off. Tin foil is great for masking unusual shapes as well.

Any tips on removing the wiper arms, as the nut is covered with a plastic shroud, or do i just bust it off?

if there's anything i've learn in respray, it's this.

1)If it can come off, Take it off
2)If it took you less time to tape the car than to remove all the bitz then you haven't spent enough time on it or taken enough care.

Plastic cap pops up, reverse on the spring from when u lift u'r wipers

Just done one, ditto with the strip down, will definately make for a better job. I used supercheap black enamel ($40 for 4 lt) and thinners. Came out good for a first time gun job out in the yard. A spray painter told me to add some 2 pak hardner but I didn't. Probly would have helped harden the enamel, But hey it's all one colour.

I've sprayed 3 zooks, 2 were rush jobs and one was a bit more carefully done. The answers to your questions also depend on whether you are using the same colour, I'll assume you aint.

Do the screen off the car, on a flat surface.

Also do the doors the same, with them flat ithere will be ZERO chance of runs.

Use a gun, rattlecan jobs rarely look good (e.g. grimbo)

Oh yes and olive drab is the easiest colour to spray with

Got those LTB's on yet??

Well, it will be rattle cans as i dont have a compressor, and cant justify the outlay for a quick spray job, but thanks for the advice.

Swampers will be on by mid Feb. Sooooo long to wait!!! The spray job is keeping me entertained for the moment.

I know that this might soudn silly but if you are going to use spray cans get yourself a bucket of hot water and put the cans in there first. That was when you spray you get a better flow through the nozzle and the pressure is slightly higher and the paint flow better hot. It does make a difference.

Yes, i knew this from my days of RC Cars and spraning the lexan body shells.
