Insurance on your GQ
Insurance on your GQ
Just wanted to hear what insurance companies are being used for GQ owners? I'm just about to turn 25 and got my renewal from RACQ for $800. Wanted to see how this compares to people with a similar vehicle and similar age group. The price seems a bit exxy to me.
Its an 89 Maverick TD42 with turbo. insured for 10500 plus all accessories. ie. roof rack, bullbar, radios, are all covered.
Cheers guys

Unique Car insurance thru TCIS $700 for $25k agreed value.
Dont bother with much else, they wouldnt touch the lift kit.
the 4wd assocation has a place, but they told me nothing over 40mm lift... but apparently that was "a Mistake"...
Your driving a modded car, so thats extra, your young, so thats extra, $800 seems about right.
No way!!! My truck is a 97 model GQ. Has a lot of accessories like winch, lights, cargo barrier, three radios, ARB bar work, Long Range tanks etc... all in very good condition and mine was sighted at the insurance bay. AAMI fully insured it when I was 20 years old (last year) for $680 dollars. That's with the lift and everything. Plus, they gave me rating one also.
The bloke sat in it and went through it even after I had listed all the stuff in it and even added to the policy stuff like rubber floor mats etc. He wrote the floor mats down as being worth $100.00 on their own.
I think that if it's clean and well presented then it just depends on who you get on the day.
Insurance companies are a strange mob......

Ahh yes insurance is a strage thing, just read the fine print.
Do they cover for accidents on a back track is the middle of no where, or do they state on Gov registed roads (which excludes most forestry tracks).
The only one I seen that covers you in all cases except comp's is http://www.dgainsurance.com.au/4wd/frame.htm.

People if you are just looking for cheap insurance go for anything (as you seem be doing), but be prepared to be knock back on a claim if your f@#k up in the bush, mate of mine was knocked back when he upended his LUX going into to Gatta, he was with AMMI.
Reason not on Gov registed road, he was driving in via Tea Tree Spur.

This I have heard of numerous times... They tell u that yor 10000% covered anywhere on the planet.... etc.. but you aint..
NRMA $500 a year and covered 4wding... but the assumption that there would be no coverage for competitons would be sensible. Have the book so may have to read the fine print. However if they didnt tell me about it you've always got a good case.....
Market Value + mods are covered. Thats fine on mine as while its below nominal kays it's not the most immaculate one out there. I even told em about the dint in the guard
Max 50mm lift though (suspension or body) so you have to just cut the guards instead.

Ulitmately insurance is a bet. Myself and a couple of others are betting that we won't need insurance so we don't have it. I'm far and away infront at the moment.
Only time I had insurance was for a vehicle on lease and even when I had the dings fixed, 4 doors, sill both rear quarter panels, cost $3,000, I'd have been better off with out the insurance.

I took the bet for 14 years.... after I had the insurance at the right time (early on had 2 crashes - one I would have struggled to pay at the time).
I pranged my wife's car in a carpark about a month ago - dented a panel on a commodore and cracked a taillight on her car.
I would have preferred not to go through insurance but that needs the other person not to be an a$$hole. If I had no insurance it woulda been easier and cheaper - even at my age and rating 1 protection, by the time you work out no claim bonuses and stuff.
They just take your numberplate and the insurance companies talk. You lose your rating anyway even if you dont tell them and they can cancel policy for non notification if they feel like it.
It's only a bet worth taking if you know you can pay for the damage you cause. I probably could for almost any car you could run into.
In gambling, anyone who bets what they can't afford to lose is a problem gambler. After all, the odds are in your favour not hitting a ferrari or something equally expensive.
But you can't afford to lose even once and lady luck is known to be a fickle you know what.
I got my insurance on the truck (and on a motorbike for the first time EVER) shortly afterwards.

DGA $560 for my GQ stocko agreed $10k.
When it all boils down to the claim, i know these guys do deliver the goods when a mate hit a cow in his MU and they put the claim thru no problems.
As for running without insurance.... different strokes for different folks i suppose but there are just too many non-insured, broke pluckknuckles driving 'eminem edition' comodes not to have it. Imagine if they hit you, turned around and said "sorry i aint got any money or a job and the dog is pregnant, was a nice truck before i hit it". I'll pay every year thanks.
Could be worse, my wife's XR8 is $980 per year thru suncorp rating 1.

I'm seriously thinking about doing this also

Weekends - Mav shorty with lots of stuff

Hmmm, thanks for all the comments people I didn't expect suck a large response. I think I'll give DGA a call and maybe AAMI just to compare. Judging by what you guys have got I'm definitely getting ripped off as I am also on a rating one. When I asked RACQ about where I am covered they responded with as long as the track I am on is on a map then I'll be right, little bit vague really. Thanks heaps.

Thats what all insurance company's say, but the 'out' they have is is the map published by the Govenment Printers ie VICMAP, NATMAP etc, if not and it published by Forestry or Mining etc they can say its not a registered track.
