Want to replace the lux with a rangie, Pro's and Cons please

I've just about had it with the lux and am thinkin getting a range rover, late 80 model, wondering what the pro's and con's of the Rangie are over keeping the lux, Don't want a shorty or a wagon, so rangi seems like best bet as far as wheel base, coils and V8.

well the major problem with rangie is strength of parts if your going to seriouly thrash it.

but in all seriousness if you get a rangie get a 4 door. flare the guards do a 2" body lift and 2" spring but put GQ shocks in the back (more travel) a small bracket needs to be made for the back.

and once trash the rear of the body after a couple of years/months cut it down into a ute.

Move up from a tractor to some refinement, go the Rangie.

What models are best to look at, was hopin to get something with leather seats and electric windows, what models did these come in.

Also I've seen Das's with the patrol diffs under it, are the axles the only weak point, I've also heard the ball joint on the rear suspension is another weak point, can these be beefed up etc, will only be running 35's on it, so not looking for huge lift, just something thats prob auto, V8 and comfy, park in the garage, and get out when I feel like wheelin, not sitting in the garge in bits all the time, won't be a daily driver, also, how do rangies go on gas.

Go the Rangie!!!!The two vehicles are like chalk and cheese and shouldn't be compared.

On the contary, you can fit Hilux centres and the like to Rangies to improve strength as several people on this board have done.

Apart from strenth issuees if you like to play hard, you wouldn't regret going to a Rangie. Onto my 4th Rangie and wouldn't consider owning anyhting else

The fact that you can fit hilux centres to the rangie for not a whole lot of money and a set of custom axles means you can have a refined vehicle
and a capable vehicle in one, then you get all the gearing options.

And lets not talk about transfer case strength, how long till you put an LT230 into you lux scotty ? I guess the 2.8 power house hasn't broken it yet

Yeh I know Ruff was doin something with hilux hemispeheres into rangie centres, I've got plenty of lux spare parts, Would this mean I could keep my lockers if I fitted lux centres with custom axles.

yep you sure can...
front needs to be high pinion though...so depending on which lockers you have i.e RD01 or RD23

front only has to be hi pinion if you want to keep the steering link down low.

Best option is to change to hi steer setup.

what is your planned use for a RR ?

if you want serious off road, then cut into ute. lose heaps of weight and overhang. either do lux diff conversion or go to GQ diffs.

only other downside to RR's is the lack of reduction gearing avaiable. nothing is off the shelf but maxi drives 30% low range redutcion, which is kinda pathetic when you compare to what you can get for lux, patrols, cruisers, seirra's etc

Thanks for advice guys, I'm gonna look into a few more things soon, but I dare say that My Lil Lux could be My Lil Rangie by April, I'll do a little more research before I make my mind up.
