Air Locker or Lockrite
Ok, Been down to the local 4x4 shop, and they are telling me that I am better of getting a lockrite front locker for the GQ and not to worry about a rear, setting up for comp use, and of course the more challenging trips.
From my point of veiw front and rear Airlockers would be great as they give you a lot of control, but what do you guys reckon....the nissan limmos are good, but they still aren't a locker!!!!

go the air locker there are going to be times in comp work when you dont want the front locked in..
maybe a loc rite in the rear but very a few people are doing this.

well most people who do the extreme winch challenge are either using air lockers or maxi drives .
i cant believe that guy said you should go a front lock rite.....

Do yourself a favor and go with the air locker.
I had a lockrite in the front of a 60 series and always found it difficult to steer around rocks ect , in the mud it never wanted to go in the direction you pointed it in. Fitted a air locker in a 100 series and now GU and would never recommend anything else.

I can't believe anyone actually voted for an auto locker in the front, they suck - badly effect your turning radius, are dangerous in low traction side slope situations, and they aren't real strong. If you're building a competition vehicle, you NEED lockers (or a traction control package, not just a LSD), front and rear, and a manual locking diff (air locker, macnamara etc), is the only way to go.

Used to run an air locker in the front and a modified factory LSD in the rear of my GQ. Worked extremely well. Although not as well as twin air lockers obviously

I went in to get pricing on front and rear air lockers and switches....dont want the pissy little ARB one so I setting up a high flow one, and they couldn't even get me that + wouldn't look at discount.....ARB list prices all the way and after all the shite I buy from them
Like I said, still shaking my head at the BS sell thing, the guy prolly a shop jocky with no 4b anyway I even told him I wanted control for tight corners, rocks etc but no.....he reckens most comp rigs are running lockrite, thats when I gave up and walked out
Oh well thats all from them now, will stick with Mannell and OL brooky

well i havent voted yet, but i went with lockers front and rear mainly on price. and spent the money i saved on other things, but then again with comp stuff good chance you would have sponsorship and money would be a little easier. If money was spare i of gone airlockers.

heh that's funny. I would say 80 - 90% of the blokes competing do it with little or no sponsorship whatsoever. The price differernce between air lockers and even cheapo lockrights isn't that much anyway, especially if you have to pay someone to install them

Therefore you would be paying aussie market price for autolockers double the import cost
In your situation you would be silly not to go air lockers really. Just get em elsewhere or at least from a different salesman at that particular TJM

I don't believe you could import a patrol lockright from the states anyway. Hell they don't have patrols
We import them all the time, and ones for OKA's and other non USA spec diffs.
We sell both Lock right and Airlockers. Pro's and cons to both. Come in and we'll sort it.

you went to TJM (surely ARB's main rival?) and asked them if they would recommend/do you a good deal on an ARB air locker?
also I dont think $310 to fit an air locker (plus $140 to fit the compressor) is even an issue - its not worth getting your hands dirty for!
