Blinkers Flashing Real Fast????

Blinkers Flashing Real Fast????
Can anyone tell me why my blinkers on the passegner side are blinking at double speed???? further to this the rear passenger side blinker doesn't work at all????
And just to confuse things, the driver's side blinkers are working fine.
Could this also be related to my previous post "Brake and Charge Lights"????

the reason why the blnkers blink faster, is to let the driver know that either there is a blown light bulb, or some wiring is out of whack.
most common is the blown light bulb. its a safety thing in all cars. sometimes when you disconnect a set of lights such as the rear tail light assembly, the indicators will flash faster.
just replace the blown globe, and she should be right.

You discovered your problem without even realising it
The reason it blinks faster when a globe is gone is because there is one less globe lighting up. The blink speed is determined by the filaments in the globes heating up as they light and cool again, if you have a globe out then the overall blinker system will cool down faster and therefore blink faster.
I have the same problem now that i have installed LED tailights, as LED's dont have filaments the heat up cool and down is almost instant so now my blinkers flash like crazy (why this hasnt been taken into consideration by Hella i have no idea). Installing a globe in series with the LED's and hide it should help this, or installing higher wattage globes in the front, also i think putting a resistor in place of the globe might help too.

what now...
ok well the blinker was fixed by cleaning the dirt and mud out. But now it's got another problem......i'll try and it explain it as best i can.
When I put the park lights on, only the passenger side comes on. However, if i put my foot on the brakes whilst the park lights are on, the passenger side goes out and the driver's side comes on????
If i dont have the park lights on, the both the brake lights come on together.
Don't know if that makes sense but it's booked in for a pink slip tomorrow so i need as much help as i can get.

Had some freaky things happening with my tail lights which I decribed way back here, but I was slack and didn't post the conclusion it seems. Going on faint memory, I actually just replaced one of the bulbs and that fixed both.
As others have said, the lights often don't work in isolation. I've had the funny timing thing happening before too, when one light was out. In fact, they didn't work at all when I have both rears out!
Also try "electrical contact cleaner". You can get an aerosol can of it at auto places.

?
Well i pulled all the rear lights apart and gave them a big clean last night. The bulbs and holders were all coroded and full of dirt and mud. Once cleaned with a bit of steel wool they have been working fine. Haven't seen my brake and charge lights flicker on with the blinkers since then either so i'm hoping it fixed all the problems.
Anyway, it passed the pinkslip so thanx for the help (not that he even checked the blinkers)

Just change the flasher unit under the dash, I did this when I went to LED front blikers. Just go in to an auto elec shop and tell them you have changed to led`s and need a new flasher to suit. They cheap as to.

Cheers mate, that sounds like a better option!

I have no idea i got them for chrissy, neither are cheap, i think you need to get them from truck places most auto shops dont have a clue what they are.
I think the hellas were $180, but i dont know for sure, call truck places or send them emails asking them.

Blinkers
Just a bit of info.
The flasher will blink faster if the RESISTANCE has changed - ie using one globe, not two. Not so much the process of heating up and cooling the globes. LED resistance is different to incandecant globes. Though the blinker unit does heat up and cool down the bi-metalic switch and this is probably what you are thinking about (or maybe I just didnt read your post correctly and this is what you already said ;-)
So, to solve the issue with the LEDs, you need to add a resitor to the bank of LEDs or change the blinker unit., or be real tight and add a globe under the dash and paint it black.
Cheers,
James.

Got some Amber Duraleds yesterday as front indicators for the Zook. They were $16ea retail. Narvas would be of simular price but the Hellas were more compact.
