Rock Sliders

Post by ToNkA »

A while back I remember someone saying that they are classed as a chassis mod if they are welded on or likewsie.

Trying to figure out the best way of mounting them to the lux. My idea would be to weld a plate to the chassis where the sliders are to mount and have it threaded so that the slider plate can bolted to it, if that makes sense.

I would like them to be removeable, so I dont want to be welded permanent.

Any other ideas or suggestions?

Large U bolts like they use to hold alloy Ute trays on with? remove them in about 10 mins if need be..

or make a U shaped bracket off the end of the slider, to go round the chassis rail, and 1 bolt down the back from top to bottom to secure it?

nice link dangerman!

tonka what about putting in a sleeve through the frame rails through which you mount bolts. it would be classed as a chassis mod but it would be super strong and still removable.

Mine are bolted to the rail, 4 bolts (2 above 2 below) attaching to a plate the other side of the rail so they are basically clamped on.

I'm not familiar with the specific regs in Victoria but you should be OK as long as you don't drill or weld the top and bottom of the chassis rails .

Make a U-shaped plate that slides over the chassis and bolts at the top.

Sacrifice minimal ground clearance with no chassis mods.

PITA bit would be getting the U-shaped plates the right size/shape/angle to be snug and clamp firm.

Here is a VERY quick pic of my idea ... (all sh!t about my art skills will be ignored! :finger: )

Found this design on another website and it is the one I will copy.

Allow max clearance under the chassis, no bolts or edges to be crushsed or bent below the chassis.

I reckon it would be easier to make up the u shape out of 3 pieces of metal and then weld them, to get an exact fit around the chassis.
