how about another 83 hilux??? :D

Unless you want to change to x-over steering (which is suggested, as it means your drag link wont get damaged & your steering wont bind up if you have a big lift) there aren't any easy swap in power steering boxes for the hilux. This is because the steering box on your hilux runs from front to back. ie from the steering box, the steering arm goes to the banana arm on the drivers hub, which then a drag link attaches to & goes to the passenger side hub.

60's landcrusiers have x-over steering, ie from the power steering box, the steering arm goes to the passenger side hub, with a drag link back to the drivers side hub.

To run x-over, you will need to replace your steering box, with a hilx IFS power steering box, then buy the parts from big balls, snake racing etc. There is a thread here somewhere about these.

Have a look under both vehicles & you will see what I mean.

Hope this helps.

60 series p/s almost impossible to fit up. Either use Hilux IFS box if you are going to x over steer or get power steer box from later Hilux- these bolt straight up but much rarer (I have one of these if u r interested). If your suspension raised more than 3 inches you will need dropped draglink- but u must have one if already running 35's?

That depends on your requirements for a 4x4.

If you want a daily driver that can go up to Fraser, with good vision & has a tray, then I would suggest the later model power steering box.

If you want to start running some serious trails, rock crawling, of comps then definately the x-over steering.

You will need: Power steering box, power steering pump, resovoir (where is that spell checker :D ) High pressure line (pump to box), low pressure return, line from resovoir to pump, pump mounting bracket, if you have a/c then you will need a 3 belt pulley for the end of the crank or only 2 belt pulley if no a/c, belt, plus the resovoir mounting bracket.

You will need these components, weather you use x-over or not.

You can add: steering arms, IFS steering box instead of later model box, drag link, 4 x ball joints, pitman arm for steering box, plus the rod that goes from the pitman arm to the steering arm (I always forget its bloody name ), if you want to go to x-over.

Depending on who you speak to you MAY need a suspension lift & to remove to anti-wrap bar on the front diff.
