you get that I have done the rockers, seems ok.. changed the plugs and leads as well. I guess it seems underpowered after driving my VL. but idles like a diesel sorta.. tho I think the exhaust is leaking somewhere, I need a set of extractors, would tidy it up, it always did have a tick kind of exhaust noise with it..
Guess you already checked timing? Mine also idles quite like a diesel, even with new sparkies. After changing idle revs it runs a little better, but it's still far from a smooth idle. Did you pressuretest the exhaust? tho I dont think that's the problem. What's the ideas on the extractors? I have thought about it myself, what to do with the intake, since it is attached to the exhaust manifold. How much power could you get out of the motor?? even thought about turboing it...
Still not sure whether I'd stick to the 12r with al the goodies or swapping it for a 3y.
Cheers,
Ron

Yeah the 12R isn't much of a motor to "soup" up, just looked @ the Dellow belhousing conversion case price again would be nice to get an 18R in.. there has been 2 complete 18Rs dumped @ my local dump in old Coronas, carb/alt/hoses etc.. *sigh*.. you normally unbolt the inlet from outlet manifolds (they should be sealed) and the extractors are usually made to fit under stock manifolds.. the pipe has dogey joins on my F20 so I'm sure it leaks (towards rear of vehicle) TURBO !! noooo... would kill the old girl.. I was reading the 18R block can accept the twincam head ? would be interesting.
