Differences in Hilux Chassis

Post by Brad »

Hi can anyone out there tell me what differences there are in hilux chassis over the years.
I have an 81 Single cab but would like to swap the body to an 83 dual cab. Are the chassis the same or are they different ?

It seems that the D/C and S/C maybethe same and the extra cab longer.

Figures for 1998 model
D/C 4725 mm long x 1690 Wide, wheel base 2860mm
S/C 4725 mm long x 1690 wide, wheel base 2860mm
EX/C 4970 mm long x 1690 wide, wheel base 3095

Now if some one can just find some specs on the early 80s models.

Brad there is a short bed and a long bed single cab in an '80 model as long as yours is a longbed then its an easy swap you should only need to add one more set of mounts to the frame to fit the dual cab to it. The frames are the same length.

If you need a cab Parkridge Wreckers had a complete blue one a few weeks ago.

Brad
remember to ask for the cables that join the chasis to the cab which are located on the chasis xmember next to shock mount points, and u may have to adapt the fuel tank bracket under the rear of the cab.
P.S remember to keek compliance plate off of single cab as reference to year make for the assholes at vic roads or whoever as they are very simple minded. by the way provided the d cab was an option in that model (as it is ) you should not have to get an engineers report (except for the new mounts that is .
good luck

No probs, spoke to the wrecker and they have an 84 D/C which they are after about $1200 for, guards, bonnet, doors, cab etc etc. Not sure how much trim that includes but I am guessing at least the dash and stuff.

Based on what I am being told it it pretty much a bolt on.

Main roads are not a concern, I will just get it tagged as a rebodied vehicle.

If the DC they quoted you on is an '84 then you are gunna have a few more dramas as '84 is a second generation cab and i beleive all the chassie mounts are different.

yeah they are I had a look at one today. I have found an 83 now which is the same apart from the ugly square headlights.

I am begining to think it will just be easier to buy an LN106 DC

i saw it last night, its not Tonys and I think its his dads. Tony has never driven it, the back has a nice TJM step. it was not a diesel, so i lost interest. Looked like it might have been a 22R with extractors.

Also had aircon :D dual cab, styleside :( sadly extra info you will have to ask tony for and he wont be on the net until tonight.
hands and mums dont count!!!
