holden 308 water temp

Just wanting to know what temp a 308 runs at under normal running conditions. I have a 308 red motor in my rangie and I'm having some heating issues, replaced thermostat, replaced radiator (vl commodore 3 core), lowered top radiator hose, fitted thermo fan. around town and on the open road it's seems fine about ten degrees difference (80-90) its just on the hills on the open road or forgeting to put it in 4th around town that it heats upto 100 degrees, there seems to be an awful amount of heat under the bonnet and it's having trouble escaping.
guys any help would be appreciated

i have a 308 fitted in my fj45 cruiser . it runs about 145 deg F and when towing on a hot day it might get up around 180 deg F (82 deg C )
i use a hj47 radiator, large wb fan .

what i have done to alot of customers 4x4 is make a custom bonnet that lets air out near the windscreen so more air can pass threw the radiator .
or u can just lift up the back of the bonnet about 10-15mm .

a test u can do is take off you bonnet and go for a drive ....

May be your radiator isn't large enough. Different cars have different airflows. So try the bonnet off thing and see if it stays cooler. I would still be inclined to get a bigger radiator though.

My radiator is ""based on a HQ 308 Statesman. The 3 core Commodore radiator would boil when I went off roading, and I have only got the VR V6 in mine. I have not had any trouble since the larger one went in.

I`d be looking at maybe a 5 core radiator and lifting the bonnet up at the rear aswell.

You could also have a water pump on the way out maybe

If the problem is heat not escaping, maybe something like an LH/LX Torana bonnet scoop (reverse scoop, so hot air gets sucked out the back of the bonnet up onto the windscreen), would help it? Even a couple of bonnet flutes on either side could well do it some good....if you have a look around at bling bling cars, you're sure to find something that is discrete enough to not make you look like a tool, but effective enough to let a bit of heat out.

if your temp is ok on the open road,it's not the radiator.its all about air and water circulation. on the open road the incoming air is strong enoughto push all the hot air out from under the bonnet, so why not do it with a proper fan piss the thermo fan off & put a decent engine driven fan & shroud on! next is water circulation when on the open road the water pump is spinning fast. when idling around town or more fun idling around in the sticks, the pumps turn too slow to pump enough water around change your water pump pulley to a smaller one! some engines use a smaller pulley when optioned with a/c . on my 360 chrysler in the scout I just use an a/c water pump spins the same speed as the crankshaft.

I'm having similar problems with a 308 VN engine. Even on the open road (on gas) it'll get warm if its close to 30 degrees outside. Then if I turn on the aircon, it all over. Flushed the radiator but I think a new one might be on the cards

V8 Middy.. make sure your gas is tuned right.. i have a 308 in my 40 and it was overheating at highway speeds.. turned out the cruise adjustment for the gas was too lean..

Just had a thought...

At the moment, I have no air box. Just a snorkel and a pod filter but nothing to connect them. Is it possible that the air going into the engine is too hot (taken from the back corner of the engine bay) causing it to run lean and get hotter and just keep getting worse?
